DFW Road Rally -- June 20!
The third rally of the Texas Region championship series will be held Saturday, June 20, starting in McKinney at 9am.
Thirty-three cars registered for the Rally to the Race earlier this month, and 31 started, including a Ferrari, two Lamborghinis, and a Nissan GT-R.
A 350Z Nismo entered our Night Rally last year. If three of you enter, you can form a team to compete with Team Mini, who won the Team Trophy at the last event.
The Rally Without a Name will explore back roads in Collin, Denton, and Grayson counties, with drivers getting about 3 hours of seat-time. Then we'll have an awards party at the Texas Roadhouse in McKinney for a late lunch.
Registration is through MotorsportReg.com, which can be accessed at tinyurl.com/RWN09msr . See the details on the attached flyer.

Awesome. I may attend this. Anybody interested in forming a "team?"
If this isn't a competition/race, what are the trophies for? What about the team trophy? I'm not understanding how a scenic drive would earn anybody trophies.
BTW, the website you told us to go to states, "The rally course covers about 120 miles of scenic North Texas country and suburban roads," but the flyer you uploaded states, "The rally course covers about 90 miles of scenic North Texas country in Collin, Denton, and
Grayson counties, all of which are paved." Which is it?

I've been planning on doing this and am really curious about how it all works (type of people who attend, pace of driving, etc.) I'd be up for forming a team, if they don't have to be the same type of car. Could we have a VQ team?
sccarally, what kind of pace is involved with this event? Is it truly a relaxed and scenic drive, more spirited with a fairly fast pace, or just people being wreckless? If it's the first, I might bring the wife and kiddo. If the second, I'll come alone. If the third, I won't bother coming at all.

I'm only coming if it involves actual competition (going by trentor's, the middle or last option).
I'm not going to pay money to drive around wasting gas, when I can do that for free (minus gas cost).
Not every competition is a race. With us, it's how well you follow the rules, and how many clues you find along the route. You need to enjoy solving puzzles, while you drive over pretty, winding roads. That's why you have to have a navigator, so he can solve while you drive.

The team trophy goes to the three cars (registered as a team) who get the most points in the competition.

Sorry, I had an estimate of 120 miles from the rallymaster, and he cut some out. He didn't tell me why, because I will probably compete, and he didn't want to give me any clues. 90 miles is his latest estimate, which still might change.

Cool. Thanks for the clearing up the confusion. This sounds interesting. I might still attend.
BTW, what kind of puzzles are these? Depending on the puzzles, I guess my "navigator" might change.

I am a member of SCCA and have done several rallys in the Kansas City Region in the past and I thoroughly enjoy them. It's a real challenge mentally.
I've always been impressed with the routes the Rallymeisters work up for us and have gone back later and driven them on my own.
This is a great way to spend a day.

Be aware that those who register online (early) get the rules in advance, so they can study them. This is an advantage. You can register without a navigator.

Good luck and enjoy the Rally this weekend. I think you;ll find they are a LOT of fun.
I did an SCCA "Gimmick" Rally a couple of Saturday's ago. Time, Speed, and Distance is not a factor. You are given clues with words missing and you have to find the corresponding sign and fill in the word. Just to mix things up, the clues are not given in order i.e. the first clue could be the last sign at the end of the rally. We answered 17 out of 18 correctly.
If you enjoy this event there will be an SCCA "London to Paris Rally" in October. The route is around the Russellville, AR. area. I have never participated in it but I understand the roads and scenery are outstanding!
Enjoy the Ride!
