Was talking with ChrisP about this and wanted to propose the idea of a cruise/spirited drive meet. I know he had mapped out some good routes in the area. We can always work out the details, but maybe something like meet at a central location shortly after lunch, drive for a couple hours or so and then people can head home as needed, or eat somewhere like Bone Daddies like we usually do at other meets. I'm going to look for his posts on the routes now.

Chris, what are your thoughts on this route? I figure being McKinney to Sherman you'd know the area better than most. Preferably I'd like to be able to scout the route first just so that people don't drive very far unless we know what it's like. I know for some a route like this would be very far. Would be great if we could find something central of course.

Something in the Flower Mound to Denton area I feel like would be perfect in terms of location.

I have relatives in Denton. Or at least I used to.

Man, I sometimes wish I could've moved to DFW.

We could also do a regular meet this month and tuck away the cruise idea and have more time to plan one. Also possible to discuss it at the meet.

If we want to do a meet sooner rather than later I'd think the usual meet is the better option. I read through the old cruise threads, and they were from long enough ago that the roads could be completely different. Considering if people drive a decent distance I don't want anyone to be disappointed when there is construction/boring/crappy roads.

I also think it could be good to discuss the cruise idea in person.

Whate route?

I was the leader for the one around McKinney/Princeton and I made sure the roads were nice enough for us to drive through by going through the exact route before the actual cruise. I posted that route somewhere, but I could be wrong.

Dammit I guess I didn't post the link, let me try to find it again.

Here we go, looks like it could be shortened easily too. Only issue I see is being NE is going to far for most people.

Yeah, I don't know about that one. The roads get worse the more north you go from what I remember. I wouldn't go too far north of Van Alstyne. I think the one that I led started at the border of McKinney into Anna toward Leonard then to Farmersville finally ending in McKinney. The feedback on that one was good but then if people don't want to drive far... none of these beyond McKinney will work.

FWIW, the original cruises we used to have (before even those 8 yr old threads I posted) were on the highway and around Grapevine Lake. They were fun in their own way, but not like the country road cruises. The downside to those routes was that a lot of people were speeding and attracting unwanted attention (lots of boosted Z/Gs back then). Plus, traffic and traffic lights ended up splitting people into multiple groups. That's why in the '07 threads, I think we mention bringing printed maps, using walkie-talkies, having multiple leaders scattered throughout the group, etc. With country roads being single lane roads, there isn't a whole lot of speeding but people tend to get a little excited and we did have 1 go off road. Just thought I'd share..

I've driven the roads along the north part of Grapevine lake. One issue is the mtb trails cross some of them and I always worry about something shooting out of the trail in front of me. There's not a lot of room from the trees to the road in a few spots. That's only the NE part of the lake though. That area would be a good central location.

So, what's happening with the cruise/meet? A few people have asked me about it in the past week so there's definitely interest, especially with the good weather we've been seeing.
