never mind about my last post. I aM going to run up 64 because I can keep a better pace on 64 . RT60 will be 45mph-55mph the whole way. so now the question is were do we meet up?

Hey Kelly, did you get a chance to explore 66W towards Manassas today? Any luck finding a meeting spot?

Why don't we meet right after 64 and 81 merge? Have you traveled on that section of the highway before? Are there any rest areas? As Kelly said, we should reach Staunton around 6:30am.

Hey Jess,
Yes I did, so here's the scoop:

Take Rte 66W, and exit at exit 47A. (234 Business). At the second light, turn left onto ***** Ford Road. there is a McDonalds just after the turn. This McDonalds is about 1 minute from 66 West, so it should be an ideal meeting spot. Sound ok?

As for our meeting up with the Richmond contingent, Toby, why don't you be near the freeway at around 6:30 and when we start nearing the 64 exchange, we'll call you and sync up. If you have a set of two way radios, we will pick a frequency and noise eliminator code before hand, so if we have cellular problems we can beacon for each other when we get close. Does that work for you? Not terribly scientific, but since we don't know that area, it should do the trick.

Let's make sure we have a relatively complete cell-phone list before we head out. Here's what we have so far...
1. Ben Yavari - 571-594-3595
2. Kelly Cobean - 703-554-5691
3. Brett Olson - 919-923-2797
4. toby 804-852-9139 cell
5. Jess Perlez - 201-838-7124
6. Hugo Barrios 703.395.2531

works for me. I will pick up some radios this week. I am sure there will be someplace easy to find right off 64 and 81.

McDonalds works for me. I just spoke with a buddy of mine here at work and he mentioned another possible meeting spot before exit 47A, but since you took the time to find us one, we'll go with your find. Thanks! I'd like to be there early, so I'm planning on 3:45.

Oh, I waxed the car, hooked up the XM Radio, and packed a couple of things in the Z yesterday. Needless to say, I'm ready to go!

OK, I know the Staunton area real well, and the cell service is patchy at best around there. Toby, I would recomend those two way radios they should be very helpful. We get to drive through JMU (my alma mater). The drive down 81 is a great drive, do we have any radar detectors? Any bold enough to break 'em out, as they will be really useful in certain areas. So we are meeting at 4 at the McDonald's, that sounds good too me. This is one of the 24 hours ones right? I will probably require a coffee.

I will have a set of radios is someone needs to borrow one, also the Kenwood goes in tonight...mmm Satelite radio/DVD's/all the MP3's I can stand.

Thank you to Kelly, Jess, and Ben getting everyone organized, this is going to be a long couple of days.

Not sure if the McD's will be open at 4:00, so if you're a "must have coffee" kinda person, you might want to bring just to be safe.

So it sounds like we have at least two sets of radios initially and 3 when we hook up with Toby in Staunton. Brett, do you have any suggestions of a 'stopping point' at the 81/64 junction where we can meet with Toby? I doubt our timing will be good enough to have him (them?) join us as we fly by, so a rest stop or exit would be ideal. Maybe we can find a McD's down there and grab some b-fast or something.

I'm really looking forward to this guys. Should be a great time.

RedBull it is then...

If I remember correctly just south of where 64 junction 81 there is some "stuff". I never drove south on 81 (except in an ice storm, which is a story for another time), so I do not know exactly what is there. But 81 is a truckers road so there should be a lot of food stations. The first exit south of the 64 junction has a McDonald's or we can use it as a refueling location, as central VA usually has cheap fuel.

Very good info Brett. So Toby, why don't we plan on meeting at the McDonald's at the exit Brett referenced above at around 6:30. If we are delayed for any reason, we'll try to call you and let you know what's up.

Looking at that map, it shows that the McDonald's is slight back off of exit 220. It might be more of a hassle to get to than intially thought. I am trying to use mapquest or yahoo maps and see if I can find anything right off the highway. I will post whatever it is that I find.

Slow day at work, so here is what I have found:
Map

The top button should be the McDonald's there are others closer, so we can use any of these markers as the rally point. This is exit 220, just after the 64 junction. Thoughts?

I PM'ed boldenmd and willpower to see if they were still going, but no response yet.

Hey pr1vateer, do you also use the screenname willpower? Or is it just coincedence that both you guys are from Richmond and share the same avatar?

EDIT: After comparing both profiles, I conclude you use both screen names. What are the chances that 2 members have an Ultra Yellow and enjoy Football (the English variety) .
