Default 5 points DoT approved?

5 poin'ts not DoT approved? Do you guys just switch them out at inspection time? Do they even ticket you when you get pulled over with them? A friend really into jeeps told me her jeep cant be on the road anymore because of them.

I don't know anyone that has a full 5 point installed. Most people only do 4 point. The crotch belt can be really uncomfortable. As long as the stock belt is in the car and functions, you *should* be good to go.

why would you want 5 points in a jeep? seems to me you'd want to be able to move your upper body around to see where your car is traveling. seems kind of dangerous too... especially without any type of roll bar. that goes with street cars too.. but that would just start a whole nother argument.

as long as your stock belt is unmodified you should be fine.

^ +1..

there are Schroth DOT-approved harnesses out there.. doubt that it's a 5-point.. you'll have to check

a harness without a roll bar = your spine/neck will be the roll bar..

I suggest you consult with the club you wish to run with. ALL the clubs I run HPDE's with do not allow 4 point harnesses. 5 or 6 point harnesses are required IF you run harnesses. Most, if not all race harnesses are NOT DOT certified, therefore, they are illegal to use on the street.

Yea, I don't know the first thing about the offroad stuff. I just know my friend and her husband are really into it, and its fairly popular (I mean, hell even I have seen the show on SPIKE TV, altho that chick is HOT!).

She just made the comment and to me it seemed kinda wierd since the harness should protect better than a normal seat belt (which I had the unfortunate sight of seeing a friend burned alive because we couldn't get him out of the damn thing in time). While my personal feelings of seat belts does not matter, I did not know what the actual word about them vs harness is. Thanks for clearin all of that up for me.
