Default Tire shop/wheel installation-avoiding sh##y service

Ok guys,

Deadcop here.
Now when I and other Z1 group buy buyers broke the Guinness record in waiting for wheels (almost 6months!!) the last thing I want is having them scratched by some idiot in a shop during installation…

So, where should I take my car to have my wheels/tires installed and what should be aware of? They should do/not do? Common mistakes, tips….etc.

Jetspank you recently installed your Hiro’s .Where did you go?

Make sure they have a plastic "shoe" or better so they won't scratch up your wheels when putting the tires on. I would also make sure they guarantee their work, so if they come out with scratches/scuffs on them they will have to pay for the repairs or a replacement wheel.

When I got my Work S1's mounted I told them about the normal build time of 3-6months of those wheels and the cost. The shop Manager himself made sure he did the work on his own. I guess he didn't trust some of his workers.

Auto Effects, Inc. College Park, MD (301) 345-1112. They have everything you need to mount almost any wheel/tire setups and install them correctly (the only exception is spoke wheels and they won't touch them for liabilty reasons). When it comes to service, these guys are the ones you want to talk to.

They are the ONLY one's who I will let do anything to my wheels (Custom Savini Forged 3-piece). The owner and the guys who work there have many years of experience with custom wheel and tire applications, and their prices are quite competitive. And they stand behind their work 150% no questions asked.

Thanks a lot. I really hate taking my wheels to NTB for balancing and then finding out at 70mph that there is vibration like being on a hopper and if you take it back to them, NTB let alone not be able to correct it, they cannot even detect it.

I recommend Ed's Tire Barn and Feed in Northern VA. You get a free pint of hand squeezed milk with every rotation.

PM sent.

But basically I recommended Radial Tire in Silver Spring (www.radialtire.com). Those guys were total pros and did a superb job. Pretty cheap, too.

make sure the shop owns (and able to operate properly) a "touch-free" mounting machine. i've seen prices anywhere from 15 per tire to 25 per tire for mounting and balancing.

I'm not in your area but I would recommend going to a Porche garage. They are used to high dollar wheels and could ill afford to **** off their clients.

On the southside (VB) I use Eurosport on South Birdneck Rd. and their weights are stuck on (adhesive backed) inconspicuously, not tapped on like the dealerships.

My local dealership (Hall Nissan) scratched my first set of wheels and when I got my chrome ones they paid Eurosport to take off and swap per TSB (tire feathering) cause they couldn't keep from scratching

Another option is the Goodyear next to Evolution Autosports. From what I understand, they do all of the mounting for the "tire/wheel packages" that Evolution sells. You can give Steve a call at Evolution for more detail. Sounds like you have some closer options though.

On the subject of Goodyear, do NOT go to the one on Glebe Rd. in Ballston/Arlington. They scratched a rim and also my front bumper.

My bad, Eurosport is on South Birdneck Rd.. I take all the wheels off and use a truck to transport. See Mike at the counter. I will edit my original post to take off wrong road.

id have to agree with kelly on the goodyear next to evolution. but TOTALLY AVOID the NTB across the street from evolution rte 50/walney...they fcuked up one of my wheels which RAYS no longer produced...i was soo pissed...after 3 mos they finally paid for it...

the ONLY problem with the goodyear next to evolution is that Steve only recommends 1 of the guys there to do the work (mount/balancing). In addition, they are EXTREMELY RUDE at that goodyear. Unless your spending more than $100 they wont give you time of day....but since ur going for all 4 mounted/balanced you should be around $120-150....so go for it!! Just get something in writing stating if ANY damages are performed to the wheel during install/mounting/balancing they are COMPLETELY responsible for replacing the wheels!!

Don't want to get you paranoid but:

a. Take photos of the wheels.
b. The service manager should annotate on the job order remove and install lug nuts by hand.

You all are making this too difficult. Go to the shop Driven1 was talking about. You have all seen his wheels. He had them mount his tires. For 1 off wheels you better be damn sure you know what your doing. His look fine. Its a bit of a drive, but if you guys are getting your tint done, hell get your wheels done that the same time!

Thanks Nowell. And I even got the wheels from them too. They have been around for a long time and they definitely know what they're doing.
