Well, last week I reenlisted (all you Army guys don't laugh yet...) for another 4 years for Hawaii. Also got myself a nice little bonus ($17.5k)... if you Army guys wanna laugh now go ahead. So I'll be headed out of the area in August. That still leaves me a couple of months to whoop up on as many of you as I can
. It sucks though, they have cat **** for gas out there... I'ma have to get a tune on *gasp* 91 octane
. Hopefully they don't close Hawaii Raceway Park (rumors I've heard) before I get there... it's only like a 20 minute drive from where I'll be living. Well, just letting everyone know.
Hopefully by the time December rolls around I'll have a nice list of mods on the Evo so I can enter it in HIN in Honolulu.
*EDIT* Guess it wasn't a rumor... the raceway is closed. Teh suck. I was a little slow on keeping up with this.

Good luck, and thank you for your dedication to our services. My Uncle was stationed in Hawaii commander of Tropic Lighting. Unfortunately he is no longer in the army but I know he really enjoyed all of the men and station out there. Again thank you for your dedication and bravery.
Hawaii huh? Well, enjoy your time there. It's sure gotta be a hell of alot better than the rat race known as Metro DC.
.
As Brett said, thanks for your service (from one Army guy to another).

I prolly won't spend the whole 4 years there... I'll be reenlisting again in late '08/early '09 for another fat bonus and hopefully this time I'll be able to get Japan... I got dicked out of it this time.
My wife had a patient the other day that has a house over there. They came back early because of sewage being dumped out in the ocean. It happened due to all the flooding that was going on...One guy had died from a flesh eating virus he caught from that crap(no pun intended). They said the smell was horrible
Hope all is cleaned up before you get there. Thanks for serving, I did 8yrs Air Force myself. Hawaii has always been my dream place to go, huge "BIG WAVE" fan. Anyway have a blast.

I once spent two weeks at Kaneohe Bay, the people in Waikiki are simply awesome. They love military folks. I was standing in an elevator when an older gentleman got on. He looked at me and asked "Are you in the military?" and I responded "Yes, Sir." He shook my hand and said, "Thank You." I was honored.
Tony, its been nice knowing you man. Keep in touch if you can. You should love it over there.

I grew up in Hawaii and moved here in 2000. Hawaii is definitely a much more relaxed atmosphere. I left Paradise for school here in NoVA and eventually found a job in my field and never looked back. I go back for vacations but don't intend to move back until I'm ready to retire.
Few things, traffic sucks and much worse than Metro traffic. Food is awesome, expect to gain some weight. I would say women are fine but I think you're married, right?
so that's a no go for you, too bad
Parking lots suck as the spaces are sooo much smaller than they are here
Roads to drive:
Tantalus/Round Top Drive: ~hundred turns in less than 4 miles.
H3 Freeway: nice scenic highway with tall valley back drops
Hangout:
Ala Moana Beach, all the locals hangout and showcase their cars their on Sat/Sundays. Careful though, fights do occur with alcohol on site although illegal to have open containers.
Have fun and make sure you wave to people who let you merge in traffic

Thanks again everyone.
Hey nizm350, I saw the plan that they had for the WCF, too bad it's not happening now. I'm still reading up on that situation though... hopefully they figure something out. Any laws against radar detectors?
ZRaven, thanks for the info. Can't wait to hit up those drives. I heard from some people that have gone over there that it seems like half the island modifies their cars.
