I let mine drive my Z whenever she wants. She does know how to drive a stick though. In the end it's just a car and I can replace it.

No offense to the guys saying yes, but do you have $20K+ in mods in your cars, what about $10K? What if you did, and you knew an accident would be a hassle with your insurance company for getting $$$ for all your damaged parts, or even worse totalled mod'd car. I've let my GF drive it with the bolt-ons, when I put in the ST and now the TT went in, only a handful of my closest friends have driven it. Things happen fast (even accidently) when an ineperienced (to the power not the manual tranny) person even goes 1/2 throttle around a turn with 500+whp/tq....

thanks for the support guys. so, i'm definitely not crazy in saying no she can't drive it. As far as the mods go, I agree with Bert, with over 10k into the car, it's a hassle to replace. Plus since the supercharger comes on instantly it can be a surprise to an unsuspecting driver. bad news about that though, (we have had many fights about this issue, so i'm thinking about calling the relationship quits if she thinks that not letting her drive the car means that i don't love her and these arguements persist. ) haha. maybe the next g/f will understand the points myself and you guys made.

Damn that sucks, I think you know what you have to do. Did you explain to her when you met her you were a car enthusiasts? That you liked cars, mod'd and raced yours, went to meets, and would occassionally work on a car for hours at a time even though she would be around wanting to do something? (Im guilty of the latter all the time) Thank god my GF is way cool with understanding this is my thing-I suggest you find one like that next time

I've only let 2 people drive my car, both were my friends who were mechanics that helped me work on it. In addition, they both drive 9 sec. race cars at the drag strip so they know how to react to power. Unfortunately, my car is weaksauce to what they are used to but they said at least it handles well.

Well, I don't have much in the way of engine mods, but I guess I'm lucky: my girl's afraid to drive it. Which, of course, is fine by me--no arguments. She lets me drive her BMW, though.

I am not quite sure I agree with the not letting my GF drive the car... I guess it depends on each situation. Of course if she has only driven a manual once, I would not to let her drive the Z... ON the other hand I would teach her on a normal manual and if she drives well, I think it would be fine.

My Z is a slightly different matter then most... Like Berto, I have stupid amounts of power and the can become dangerious very quickly and my doors are a pain in the butt to deal with. She could srive the Elise though.

NO

my gf wants me to teach her to drive stick on my car..

1) she has never driven RWD
2) she has never drove manual transmission on a car
3) she thinks her 170 hp car is quick
4) my car has Twin Turbo's

For me, this question is similar to "would you trust him/her with your handgun?".
I trust my gf with my gun's more than my car... she has extensive range time.. and she has taking the NRA Pistol Saftey Course... what does she know about my car? manual? or turbo's? NADA

i think if my Z was stock, it wouldn't be a problem. But after over 10k of mods and almost 400 hp, too risky.

I've never let the G/F drive mine, but after over a year of ownership my wife finally got to put about 3 miles on it.

...and yes, it is a joke. I don't let the G/F or the wife drive it.

Before the Tilton.. I did let past GF's drive it.. In large open empty lots with the implicit understanding that if anything bad happened to the car, she would end up in a few plastic bags.

After the Tilton... no friggin way.. I have a hard enough time driving it as is.

I completely agree with bert that an inexperienced driver and more power than they are used to can catch any inexperienced driver off gaurd. I gradually increased my power modifications and still managed to spin mine. It comes down to does she understand your hobby, to me it sounds like she dopesn't. It sounds like she is tryin to test you. To see if you like the car more than her. And its not that way at all. I don't let people drive my turbo car for one big reason, if they crash and get hurt, I would feel guilty. The second reason of course is that I have a lot of time invested in my car.

In my case since its my wife its is "our" car. I pay for the mods out of my play money fund. She likes the car a bunch and enjoys driving it. When I go from bolt ons to boost I will teach her to respect the power and let her drive it. A girl friend would be different for sure, much easier for them to walk away from the expense of damaging your car. If my wife was to damage the car out of carlessness, she would pay for the repairs or deductable out of her play money fund, not our household funds.
