Default Who all is interested in Autocross and Drifting?

I did an autocross event last Sunday and to make this short I am hooked. I drifted my car inbetween cones like a pro...pics to come soon. I have never had as much fun in my G than I did on Sunday.....WOW! The event was with the Porsche club Potomac chapter. Very cool, professional and serious guys.

Anyways, I am polling the audience to see who wants to seriously get into Autocross and drifting over the summer? I am thinking of attending the SCCA Fed Ex (Driver Education....dont let the title fool you) event in Aug and possibly the Drift day as Summit Point. More events to come as my work/school schedule permits. Bad thing is Summit Point Drift day is July 4, which is a wednesday and also July 4th...lol.

Just a poll to see who is out there on the same page as me. After reading MDRACERS post, I am strickly track ridden. Call me Dutchboy...all slow and no go...LOL! Below is a list of events....

Just messing Dutch.

I got hooked on auto-x out here (since there's no track). It's an absolute blast.

Out here though you get kicked off the course for drifting.

Glad to see another G driver autocrossing! I'm hooked on Track Days, and have been auto-x'ing a fair amount. The Capital Driving Club runs some good events (usually in Manassas and Bowie), they are a good alternative to the others you have posted. There's another member on here that runs with them, in his red Nismo Z.

OK I will create a nice spread sheet and we can go from there. I am deff hooked, but looking for some OEM wheels to rag on for the track (rears only). Might go to the junkyard and get some beat down Stang GT wheels. Glad to see that we have a decent base to make some moves. The spread sheet with events will post soon. Thanks all.

Default Lets Get Slidewaydz!!

FYI: All events require a helmet, Summit requires a fireproof helmet...see link below. The helmets are not cheap so we need to work together to borrow, buy, rent for beer or whatever. Dont say I never cared enough to do research before posting...lol. We may want some sticky action on this?

If you aren't a season subscriber, then you need to register a week before the event. The slots go fast though since the vast majority of people are preregistered for the season and there aren't many left for non-subscribers (maybe 30-40?). Basically, you need to be on your computer when they open registration, which is typically at 8pm on the Sunday before the event. Take a look around that page above and let me know if you have questions. It's not the easiest process, but you can't beat the size of the courses at FedEx Field.

As far as classing, most of the heavily modded street cars are in Street Modified class. There are some limitations (like no alcohol injection), but unless you are doing really well (i.e., you have race tires and know how to use them) you aren't likely to cause much concern among others even if you are slightly illegal. The class that you would technically fall into with alcohol injection is probably E modified, which typically doesn't have any cars.

Congratulations. Good to see that you are no longer a autocross virgin. The number of regional clubs sponsoring autocross is outstanding. Here are my favourites:

The CDC club only opens each event for registration ~2weeks before, so even though some future events say "Closed" .. it actually really means that it hasn't opened yet.

Um, you realize that you won't last more than one session in most of those events right? Those clubs don't tolerate antics like drifting, and if you were my student (which you probably would be if I was doing an MDA event) and you tried to drift intentionally, I'd make you pit until you can get your attitude back in check. Yes, it's fun to get sideways and save it, but it's 10x more fun to learn how to drive safe and fast so that when you get in hairy situations, you know how to save it.

SCCA AutoX's in the DC area blow - wait around all day for 4 runs. No thanks. You're better to find a local club that's running an event as you'll get many more runs. The BMWCCA AutoX out here ran a really fast course (about 1.5 miles) where you could get 60 runs if you wanted (for less than $60).

There's already a thread stickied at the top of this forum about HPDEs in the Mid-Atlantic - I'd suggest re-envigorating the discussion there.
