ANy type of after market exhaust is illegal in VA, its BS.
I got pulled over in my 99 Maxima for having an aftermarket
exhaust and was too "loud" according to the piglet. Stick to proper pipes sizes so you go unoticed

Technically any exhaust that is not OEM or of OEM type is illegal in Virginia.

§ 46.2-1049. Exhaust system in good working order. No person shall drive and no owner of a motor vehicle shall permit or allow the operation of any vehicle on a highway unless it is equipped with an exhaust system of a type installed as standard factory equipment, or comparable to that designed for use on the particular vehicle as standard factory equipment, in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise. An exhaust system shall not be deemed to prevent excessive or unusual noise if it permits the escape of noise in excess of that permitted by the standard factory equipment exhaust system of private passenger motor vehicles or trucks of standard make.

The law is very vague and gives lots of room for interpretation. All aftermarket exhausts designed for the 350z are a "comparable" to OEM. Its not really a ticket worth getting a lawyer for, you've just gotta have ***** and be willing go in to court knowing what you're talking about. I worked at a criminal defense law firm for over 2 years, I'm taking a year off and working for U.S. Customs and Border Protection right now (just graduated from Mason) then I am going to law school. I will work probono for you guys.
