Well, i went ahead and bought one, so we shall see how it works, can't wait to try it out and go cop-spotting. If I get pulled over, do i pull it down, or leave it up? any word on the fines for radar detectors going up?

I just realized that the fines for just going 15 mph over are insane.....its getting hard to justify a sports car any more...sheesh

you should take a look at the escort 9500 it has a mode where you can lock out false signals via a gps tracking system

thats wicked, i think this is a good investment for ANYONE in VA right now, even if it saves you from one ticket, you have saved yourself OVER 2,000 bucks...unless you don't speed at all, then it is worthless

You got pretty lucky if it was in VA. Do you have a kill switch and did you tape up the arrows and lights on the V1 unit? Every time it powers on, it completely lights up. I'd be cautious if a cop saw that in a parking lot and decided to follow you.

I have the remote unit that connects to it. When it is connected, the lights on the radar go out.

True but when you power on the unit, it completely lights up for 2-3 seconds. You lucked out when the cop pulled you over he didn't ask you to shutoff your engine. When you started the car again, it would of set off a red flag with the lights being displayed. I'd tape it up with some electrical tape so the display isn't visible mounted on the rear windshield.

It would suck if you had a 6MT and stalled with a cop behind you and upon ignition again, landed yourself a radar detector ticket. I added a kill switch in the event I was every pulled over. It avoids fumbling with unplugging wires and look like you're concealing a weapon.

i will probably install the kill switch so i can say 'it wasn't on because the power outlet is dead'

I just read the law, you cannot get points on your licence and they cannot make you destroy your detector

Finally got the beast in the mail and already loving it. I won't use it in the day mostly so i don't get smacked by the police if they see it. I do most of my fast driving at night and the fuzz likes to drive with radar always on, since people are unlikely to have detectors around here. The HID's should blind the cops coming the other way and i plan to cover the lights with a darker film to be less noticeable.

Any VA users have other suggestions?

Yeah I have one
this is what I did

I bought the Valentine plus another cheap crappy $20 detector, so say a cop does pull me over saying he saw or detected a radar detector, I just throw the Valentine in the back and if he demands that he saw or detected one, I just give him the crappy detector

Sorry, but what's the point of having a decoy unit? They simply take it to take some info and return it to you.

Eh it's ok. I think it has the potential to be the best detector but it's not quite as awesome as people say it is.

It has problems with ramp up (the audible and visible alerts do not correspond linearly as you get closer to radar cop).

The truelock feature, the one which you lock out signals, locks out any signals which it is currently and has picked up in the area recently (such as a cop for example). It also locks out a block of the frequency, so you could be locking out a potential cop in the future.

The USB port used for updates, has not be used whatsoever so far.

Like I said, great idea... but not working like it should yet.
