I am looking into a Mikey Valentine Uno and I was seeing if anyone in VA or MD has one and can comment on how well it works in the Z. Do they sell them off the shelf in MD or do I have to ship it to someone in MD then pick it up? Any info is greatly appreciated!

you have to ship it somewhere and then pick it up... I love mine and would not go back to my old one for a whole lot o cash...

and it works well in the Z. Just ask Alberto...

I run it in advanced logic... still lots of false alarms, but after a while your brain gets trained to learn the falsies on a location basis.

I don't think I can drive on the road without one of these anymore. Put yours on "L" mode, yes it catches signals from the automatic doors from stores, but there are "certain cops" that still use the old school "X" band in southern VA and in the boonies.

I have one hard wired, I love it. A good radar isnt all thats needed to staying out of speeding tickets. Nobody sells those new other than direct from the site. In over 4 years of owning one it has saved me a few times from serious trouble, but Ive also been very lucky with no speeding tickets in over 4 years and I dont drive slow. I keep mine is All bogeys mode....

I just swapped my Beltronics RX65 with a co-workers V1. The false alarms I got on my commute with the RX65 did not happen with the V1. The unit is much lighter as well.

I love the auto dimming feature and the arrows are very useful. Needless to say I'll be selling mine and getting a V1.

good to know, thanks guys. My boss is thinking about getting one also, so we might both order them and ship them to his brother and have him ship them to us. I guess they are like 399 now? What did everyone pay for them?

we swear by V1s on the rally. They have been tried and tested all across the country for the past 4 years by us.

Laser diffuser - also good.

As long as I remember they have been $400 new. Good thing is you can send em back for updates free of charge (just shipping)....

V1 FTW! Especially in VA. Those arrows are a life saver. They've always been $400 new from the V1 website. I'd also suggest picking up the remote display. I haven't heard of sending them back for a "free" upgrade instead thought they charged a pretty penny for any upgrades. It's hard at first to swallow the $400 price tag but nonetheless, it's worth it. Driving without one on long dark highways at night is like driving blind.

V1 is a great detector. Although since you're in VA, I might recommend the Beltronics STi driver. It's immune to all forms of radar detector detectors. It has a little bug with it at the moment, it sometimes filters out a certain frequency of Ka (33.8). if you're not worried about getting busted by an RDD then I would definitely suggest the V1. I have one also and it is great.

For those of you complaining about false alarms. You should set the K-band automute for 30 seconds and unmute at 6 lights. While in logic mode (little L), it will visually alert k-band alerts normally while only playing them at the muted volume as long as their strength is less than 6 lights on the strength meter and it has not been alerting for more than 30 seconds. While in advanced logic mode (big L) it wont alert in any way, shape, or form until the strength is more than 6 lights or the alert has lasted longer than 30 seconds.

So for example, I do my normal driving in logic mode (little L) so I can still see the alerts if I want to but dont hear them at all, and my highway driving in A mode (all bogeys) so I'll be alerted at normal levels. If I'm going to be driving by a bunch of walmarts and shopping centers I may from time to time put it in advanced logic mode so I dont see or hear anything unless it's strong.

Also unless you're in NJ or around, mute X-band, you dont really have a need for that. Also turn POP off, it's worthless, so don't worry about it.

You can have them shipped directly to you in Virginia. I had mine shipped to my apartment with no problems. I sold my Escort 8500, and got the V1.

I also am running the v1 in Maryland. It saved my *** numerous times. I run it on the advanced logic mode (L). The arrows help and the bogey counter is also great.

With the new Speeding Fines in VA, has the ticket for a radar detector in use gone up as well? Seems like us VA guys would be smart to take the fine for radar detector in use rather than a speeding ticket.

I don't live in VA, but a decent place would be mounting it on your visor. Unless the cop kneels down to you, he's not gonna see it.

I mount mine there anyway b/c it keeps it out of the sun better, and if I leave it up, it's not as easy for a thief to see (1 out of ever 4 detectors is stolen annually). Plus you want to mount a detector high, it helps with all forms of detection. Consequently, they are also harder to see.

The STi is coming out with an in-dash detector. I think it's going to be called the STi-R? Anyway, like the original STi, it will be immune to all forms of radar detector detectors.

This is where I had mine mounted. Got pulled over for tint with it in, and the cop didn't notice it.
