Hey DIYers,
I have a new Pioneer AVIC-D3 sitting on my floor (early Christmas present) and I'm in search of someone to help or someplace to go. I'm hesitant to take it to a "typical" stereo shop because I'd like to modify the system so I can play DVD movies on the road. Any recommendations or volunteers would be great!
I'm located in Cabin John/Potomac MD. The rate is 2 slices/1 beer per hour
- or I'm willing to drive somewhere within 20 miles.
Thanks!
Matt

I did this installation about 4 months ago with a Clarion setup. Its not as easy as it sounds. Here are two things to look out for;
If the AVIC is anything like my Clarion, in order to play video while the car is moving you'll have to install a switch. The Clarion requires the ground to go away and then come back (like putting the e-brake down and then back up) so wiring straight to ground won't work. I installed my switch in between my nitrous gauges, so it looks like it belongs with the nitrous setup.
As for the navi, it may require you to tap into the vehicle's TPS line. If so there's a wiring diagram somewhere on this site. Thats how I found it. Also, you'll have to mount the antenna somewhere in the car. If you have enough wire, run it to the rear cross bar and mount it under the plastic. It works just fine there and its out of sight.
Everything else should be straight forward. Good luck with your install.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm checking out Avic411.com and some other places as well. I honestly won't get to this little project until next week because I don't have a garage to work in and the weather is going to be so bad. It sucks doing these things in the street...
Alright the Avic is no where near as heard as many of you believe to play DVD while in motion. You must ground the MUTE connection, simple. As for the unit itself, yes it's quite aggravating and must be very careful. The nav cable is a
to run around.
I would help but i cut my thumb open pretty bad lastnight with a razor blade cutting the center bar out of the double din trim piece wile installing a kenwood dvd/nav unit in my friend's car. My avic Z2 was no problem to install it is actually quite easy, best of luck to you on the install.
