Just go to the visitor center, show ID, and then they give you a pass to get on base.

Or just PM me and I'll get you on, or anybody else in the military.

Z Driver: "Sure thing what are they looking for in my car and ummmmm, Sir whats that glove for and wtf are you planning on doing with that vasaline?!"

MP: "Well sir you have a lot of unknown equipment and electronics in your car we are going to have to search it, dont worry its standard procedure. As for you this wont hurt a bit we promise. Sir you are going to have to drop your pants to the floor. Private, we more light over here."

I use to live outside the bases since my father is a retired fighter pilot. Most bases arent as freely open to the public anymore depending on what they house. I use to get escorted from just outside the flightline to a "safe distance" when I would wander out there to watch the planes as a kid. Now not so much... they are a lil more restrictive to who's on base as they should be.

I have had my car searched more than a dozens times when I would go to Detrick to visit friends on base.

 

Detrick is not as bad, went there little while ago and simply asked for ID and searched the trunk.

 

On Ft Meade and most Auto Skills Center you must be Active Duty, Reservist, Retired, Dependent or a DoD employee with CAC card to be authorized to use the facility.

At Ft Meade you are required to take a safety class prior to using the center. The vehicle you are working on must be registered in your name or dependent.
