Anyways what do you guys think? I know Dave (FT) knows quite a bit about bmw engines that's why I'm not too worried about the 103K (no f'n way would I take it to a dealership to get it serviced or checked out)

The only thing that seems modified on it is clear corners, painted kidney grilles, and blacked out reflector on the front bumper. I have a 2000 also with similar things done. Up for sale for $11000 if interested. Has also been lowered and has 18x8 and 18x9 M5 replica wheels with KDW tires. only 70K miles on it.

Couple things to check. The E46 chassis has a HUGE issue with ripping the rear subframe out of the trunk area. This can be checked by the service manager at BMW Sterling very easily. If it is cracked that's ok. You just need to get a discount off the car. If its real bad you'll hear a clunking noise when shifting and going into reverse. I would try to beat them up for about 2K if it is damaged (it will not cost that much to repair).
Also have the dealer pull the VIN and check to see that most of the regular maintinance has been done. Check basic things like brakes. Start the car, pull the hand brake, put it in 5th, press the brake pedal hard and slowly let out the clutch. If its slipping then the car will not stall out. If it stalls then the clutch has some life on it.
Replacement parts can get pricey but I'll give you good deals on those. Labor is alot becasue most dealers and BMW specific places charge $100+ per/hr but not here!

Win win situation ... If the cars legit you'll have one diversified customer (Z and 328)
Although pulling the maintenance record is still a good idea.

The good thing about getting it through Carmax is their 30 day policy if anything mechanincally happens to the car.
Why would you want a RWD car for a beater/winter/DD vehicle? Just a personal preference of mine I guess. +1 on what Dave said as well. I just found that the german cars I've owned were high maintenance ho's when it came to alot of mileage and about 6-7 yrs of age. One being an Audi A4 and the other being a 328i conv. The Audi had high mileage and the BMW had VERY low mileage but was older and both began to need maintenance about once a month. And not really big stuff either just little PIA stuff really.
