I have been a Marine for the last eight years and I am a career Marine. What would you like to know about the Marine Corps? There are all sorts of MOS's (jobs) that would suit anybody in today's day and age. But I warn you that the Marine Corps is not for everybody, yes we will accept everybody but some people fail to adapt. This is not a job its a way of life. You need some thick skin and realize that your first 4 years is your toughest. Military pay is in my opinion the best pay around for a HS grad.

Everyone has to start somewhere and I fully understand that it will be as far away from a walk in the park as life gets. I am 25 in good physical condition and familiar with rifles, hand guns, and "hand to hand combat"

As a career Marine what are a few of the more common MOS, I have done some research but everything online is vague and leaves me with questions. I'm looking forward to my friends return from combat training because he works in a recruitment office near columbia when he's home. I'm sure I can have the majority of my questions answered there. It is nice to get some outside opinions from someone other than a recruiter though, hence my post.

I'm off for today, be back tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who has commented so far!!

Yo Dave, Different Branch, Different Mission. Don't be on of those Marines who hate on the other branches because you've been brain washed by the Corp. Don't start talking $hit on a subject you probably know nothing about.

Are you kidding me, that is a complete jackass thing to say. Obviously you have never seen combat. Please say that statement to other service members families that have lost loved ones. You my friend are not a professional. Every branch has a different mission and all operators know this. It's the desk jockey's that say stupid things like that.

As for the young man that asked what are the common MOS's. There are a bunch. If you want to stay off the front lines and not kick in doors you want to be combat support, such as Comm IT (G6=0600) Admin (G1=0100) Supply and Accounting (G8=3000). Those are basic admin jobs that will get you sent in a Combat zone but you most likely will not leave the green Zones and will not be with the Infantry and other combat arms such as Artilery, LAR, Tank BN, etc....

Every branch has there ups and downs. I served with all the branches including the coast guard. If I were to do it all over again I wouldn't be in any other branch but the Marines. but I wouldn't mind being frapped over to the Coast Guard because they do some cool a$$ Ops and have some high speed equipment too. They don't receive much recoginition but they actually fire their weapons as much as the Marines and Soldiers. (operators that is). good luck with your choice and which ever choice you make you will not regret it.

That only happens in Subs. There is enough room for every one in a Carrier .

WOOOOAAAA MAN! No need to start this. And for your info...Army infantry are bullet sponges too.

But seriously, we all have our missions, and yours was to protect the Embassy. And my hat is off to you. I'm about to go on my 4th tour and if you were a real soldier you would see that the Iraq War was is a Joint Mission. Nobody would be anywhere without the Air Force, and you know that. Once the bombing was finished and all the troops and equipment was on the ground, then the Ground Pounders took over. And the Navy sits off the coast gathering intel and sending planes over. So don't start bad mouthing the Marines because you sir are no better then any Marine. We are all equal in this war because without the other Branches, we would be nowhere.

And where would you guys be without the AC-130 Gunship???? (The Air Force Owns This)

* 1× 25 mm (0.984 in) GAU-12/U Equalizer gatling gun
* 1× 40 mm L60 Bofors cannon
* 1× 105 mm M102 howitzer
