Thats a good point Keith. Many of us have careers and some have families that don't allow something weekly, so a well organized and planned meet is alot more incentive for most to come and more likely to have a good turn-out.

From an old timer [old as in about to come around the 40-yr corner ].

Good points. I would definitely go out to more meets but -
  • I have a demanding job
  • Demanding wife and 3 boys [jk - love them all dearly]
  • Volunteer to coach youth soccer every Fall & Spring with games on weekends then summer camps
  • Split time taking the kids to other activities
  • Spend time with my retired parents [as much as possible while they are still on this Earth]
  • Spend time with my very large extended family [you asians know what I'm talking about! - no offense to anybody]
  • And barely get to do stuff around the house. My honey-do list is freaking LONG!

It comes down to scheduling in a meet when I can and picking and choosing the ones with the potential for good turn-out. Knowing of a well organized event with plenty of lead time definitely helps. Sometimes, there is no way to make it.

I just try to sneak in as much my350z.com reading time as possible to stay abreast of things. Examples today - Did some reading during a resource planning meeting, did some more reading during a production status meeting, and some more reading in between project review meetings.

Sorry for the long post as I do not post often.

Thats another reason I would rather have a once per month "Main Meet" instead of a bi-weekly small meet. That way people can focus on one day a month instead of 2 or 3, and it doesn't get old. There is usually something going on car related every month during the summer months, so we should get some chances to get everyone together.

And I don't!! Thats a terrible point, it is the old timers that don't want to show up because the "new guys" do such a "poor job organizing" well boo hoo, help out! be part of the solution and not the problem.

I come to some meets that are pretty far away (ie. Aberdeen to Rockville to OCMD in one night) I don't see why it's a big deal for others to do the same. When I drive to Rockville or NOVA I don't know for sure how big of a turn out there is gonna be, if any!

as for the meets, it really does suck being far away from the NOVA and rockville area. As those are the two areas that usually have a meet every week whether its small or big gathering. No matter what, its usually an hour and half away for me to get to any of the meets. I did my best to make it to as many meets this summer as I could without driving up there every weekend.

I have a feeling I'm not gonna be able to make it to as many meets this year

No one said you didn't. Why are you so butt hurt and taking everything so personally? There have been cases when people haven't been able to show up for scheduled appointments and had to reschedule, its understood and not taken personally. No ones job and life is the same. To call out the "old timers" for not showing up to the meets is just wrong imo as no one has said the new guys are any different when it comes to focusing on their life and career.

FYI, IMO you aren't a newb around here, but you're being aweful self conscious about it man and seem to be taking alot of things personally.

Well Since we're on the subject of meets and all, I'm gonna try to put somthing for us southern NOVA people; if that makes any sense. Nothing too big, but like a fri meet once a week. I think that works out good cause if you missed one week you should be able to catch up the next.

Come spring time there will be Chic Fil A meets starting back up. No need to try and start another meet imo.

True that. Those meets are ok; I just think I got in to them a little late because there wasn't that many Z's there. Man I can't wait for the warm weather!!!

Some Fri's are better than others. I've been there when 20+ guys showed and also when only a few showed. It happens, but man some nights up there it's packed

I remember pointing out the diff cooler at Function Tuned when Anh was around. Robbie's reaction was.... "Yes that's right. Something that you and Anh DOOOONNNNNNNNNN'T have." Robbie's really proud of that mod. Now I just need to find an Asian steal to get that same cooler in half price.

WAY OFF TOPIC BUT HELPFUL:

you can make you own coolers pretty cheap if you know what your looking for fitting and line wise like me I sell and special order that kinda stuff everyday in it's raw form. B&M sells the finned coolers themselves and places like maryland performance carry autometer and other SS/HD rubber lines, AN fittings, even metric so you can hook it all up.
