If we were to have a draft and you were contacted to serve, and did not. Then you would face prosecution. The "selective service" is simply a "waiting list" in-case of a draft.
I would serve my country, I have even posted my thoughts of joining the USMC here in this forum but I don't want to fight with anyone that doesn't want to be there that could get your a$$ killed.

goevrnment loans are also student loans, bud. but I am glad you felt the need to tell me you 'make your own money'. so do people who were once 19 who wanted to go to college...
here you go since you fail to understand that this is a mandatory thing:
here is a list of who MUST register http://www.sss.gov/PDFs/Who%20Must%2...0page10_07.pdf
here is the verbiage:

"Selective Service wants young men to register. It does not want them to be prosecuted or denied benefits. If a draft is ever needed, it must be as fair as possible, and that fairness depends on having as many eligible men as possible registered. In the event of a draft, for every man who fails to register, another man would be required to take his place in service to his country."
from the site
heres more about your individual state legislation
https://www.sss.gov/fsstateleg.htm
looks like I'm good to go, I renew my license on my 26th B-day! I'm not registered, will not register, and nothing will happen. The whole thing is a joke.

ok, read what I quoted, the text you snipped is simply to dissuage fears that SS is so the government can draft us all up. you can read the whole site and understand.
it doesn't 'want' them to, so they force you to register, but give you many oppourtunities to do it.
I personally have never heard of a single person prosecuted or penalized for not registering FWIW... it's not one of those enforced laws afaik. except related to immigration, federal aid, job, etc.
you can still get out of the draft and whatnot...

I read the optional part, and placement for those chosen if they decline armed service. All politics, this is the last thing we all should be worrying about today probably LOL my head hurts

You probably don't remember because it's just a post card that's send to you. You check a box, sign it and return it to the post office.

I don't have to worry about being drafted. I did register however, back in '99.
