I messaged Davidv about this, but thought I'd post up some info about Skyline Drive conditions. Another forum I am a part of had their drive out there this past weekend, and had this to tell:

"About the 350Z cruise. You might want to mention to those guys that the northern 1/2 of skyline drive absolutely SUCKS right now for lowered cars since there are about 50 sections of road that are torn completely out for repaving and it's just gravel. I about bent a rim yesterday getting home when I hit one that had washed out and smalled into a 2" high wall of solid asphalt at 30 mph!

They would do WELL to start at the Rt. 33 entrance to Skyline Drive between Culpepper and Charlottesville and head south on the drive, the roads are fine down there."

Current construction begins at Thornton Gap (the intersection of Skyline Drive and Highway 211). That's 31 miles of construction free cruising. Although there is no restaurant at Thornton Gap this may be a good point to end the cruise.

Well for the driving crazed folks...we can do the scenic and spirited Skyline Drive to TGap...then turn off on 211...211 is by far the best road I have EVER driven on....plus (the select few that want to) we can stop at the bottom of 211 (if you have enough arm strength left in you) and then we could turn around and head back up 211. The Corvette club doesnt even go into the park anymore because 211 is such a great road, that is smooth and new pavement. Also going down 211 is one lane (danger danger...pile up...ugly) Going up 211 is two lanes, which adds a bit more of comfort. I am willing (as long as my tires hold up) to extend the cruise to the SUPER DRIVERs that have been doing push-up for the past 6 months preparing for the drive. I dont think most of you know how physical 35mph can be in constant turns on Skyline Drive....

They will know so soon. By the time we get to 211 which is just before the Tunnel Picture in the OP first post, we are so beat anyways, we normally just go home... leaving right at the 211 interchange.

You just dont understand this drive if your not going. You also would understand why we didnt go in the rain. If you are showing at NOPI, it is still a close call, maybe NOPI wins, but just going to NOPI...no way over this!

You will never enjoy your car as much as you will with 50 fellow Nissans on this road. We are having a get together with our neighbors on Sat. night. I am sure I wont get much sleep, but I am so in because of the cler weather.

Generally no. Going north to the Front Royal entrance puts you in downtown Front Royal traffic. Most members exit the park east on Highway 211.
