Default No one can install the Final Drive 4.08 gears on the east coast?

Apparently no one on the east coast can install this?

http://www.z1auto.com/prodmore.asp?m...ne&prodid=2833

I contacted FunctionTuned and got this response...

We do not do final drive installs. I attempted to source all the components from Nissan but they have been discontinued. There is no way to install the final drive properly without these tools. I have been unable to find a company that can properly perform this install on the East Coast. There was mention the Technosquare could do it but I have been unable to confirm. I would check with them if I were you.

Crap! What do I do now?

contact the people who sold it to you? I'm sure they get the question every time someone buys a set.

I am certain that I know numerous people who can install it

what is making it difficult?? did you ask the same question about a special tool? what tool?

I can help you, I communicate daily with technicians of all sorts that would have no problem doing this install.

I just need to know whats the hold up?

No hold up.

Everyone suggested for any work to be done on my car to go to FunctionTuned, I emailed them asking for an quote for the install, and got that response.

As soon as I know somewhere I can get it professional installed I will purchase it and get it installed from there.

I had this exact same problem so I went with other mods. Now I am reconsidering the Nismo 4.083's and found that a local Nissan Dealership will do them for 375. This is the same dealership that build a 10 sec Z I believe. You just have to get lucky..

It has something to do with the Rear independent diff.

If you want it done right the first time take it to SRT in Beltsville.

I dropped the car off at noon and picked up the car in 5 hours. All I brought to them was the gears and diff cover, the rest of the parts, shims and etc, they provided.
I forgot when I did it but its been awhile and I have at least 8-10k miles on the gears already and no problem to this date.
They did an awesome job at a reasonable pace and charged me a decent price.
Call (301)982-4600 and talk to Moe.

I would take it to this place. ESP. , if you need the car back quickly because you could end up in a situation where the diff is apart without the proper shims.

I think the only special tools needed btw are a dial indicator, and a pinion depth gauge. Which are tools that no every shop or dealership would have.

Try AAM, PMotorsports...look at the poll on the sticky thread.

you have to be proactive...this is a good reasource, but there is nothing like going to a shop and asking in person.

My two cents.

Thanks everyone. I am now disappointed in FunctionTuneds response.. a lot of you guys have been helpful and recommended me to all shops over VA (Probably a lot more if you consider the whole east coast).

I was looking for making one shop my go-to shop...

Thanks again everyone, if you still have more shops you guys could chip in that would be great -- we might want to make a sticky for Mid-A for shops that do this install?

Anyways I think I will be going with Gooeys suggestion and taking it to SRT as it seems they have everything that is needed.

Since FT told you the truth that he didn't have the tools to do the install and didn't know of anyone that did have the right tools, that maybe Technosquare could do it but to call and confirm first. you're not happy?

I'm lost...

have you ever taken a car or other item to someone, left it for x many days only to have them tell you later that they never touched it since they couldn't do what you wanted to do and to take it else where.

At least he's telling you straight up he can't do it and doesn't know anyone that can do it.

Also, I know a lot of shops that build motors and install performance parts that wont do transmission work or rear end work, changing it out (whole unit) is one thing, but when asked to open the case, a good bit of shops will send you else where.

Hey, sorry did not mean to rag on them at all. Just everyone thought that response was weird, I've received numerous PM's regarding that response.

I still plan to be taking my car for numerous things to them but I guess that response was a little weird.

Just the whole east coast part struck a bad nerve I guess.

No harm, no foul.
