Opinion Needed Please
Well, as you all know, I have a Z. I just picked up an old beater 240sx also, it was going to be my daily so save a little money on gas. Well, I came across another sweet deal on a bike, and since I've always wanted a bike, I'm going to buy it. I've worked out a deal with the seller to get him the money, and afterwards, I'll be a little broke. Now mind you, not too broke, I'll still have a few grand left in the bank, but I like to keep more than that in case of emergency. My question to you is, considering I DD my Z now, and I'm buying the bike that will eventually be what I will use to get me back and forth to work, should I sell the 240? I started an insurance plan with it already, and it actually, saves me money on insurance. I'm thinking that I should just suck it up for a month or two and build the bank back up. Which would be a better winter beater, the Z or the 240?
Help is appreciated, thanks!

Ive driven the Z on summer tires through nasty winters. Its doable, but hard on the car, the paint, the undercarriage, chassis.
The 240 being RWD is no better, but Id much rather drive that with winter tires than a Z with winter tires.
If I were you Id go for the bike AND keep the 240. The funds will come back, keep modding on either new toy to a minimum.
Also, keep in mind, many bikes will be going on sale very soon when the season is over for most people, so unless this is a really good deal, you could wait and pick something up over the winter. Regardless of what you pick good luck.

I wouldn't use your Z in the winter if you don't have to. If anything I would ride the 240 in the winter and then sell it in the spring. That way you can at least enjoy your 240 for a bit and then re-up your cashflow. Just my .02

I've got not choice but to drive the Z year round. Thankfully we see minimal snow here... so the few days it does snow, my butt sits at home and I call out of work.

How are you saving money on insurance if you have a car that you could sell? Meaning, if you're saving say $100 bucks a month. Tha's $1200 a year. If the 240 is worth $4800. It would take you four years to break even. Not to mention the fact that the value of the vehicle continues to drop.
I drive my Z all year round and don't have any problems. I'm running Falken ZE 912s that have awesome wet and snow traction. Driving in the snow with a RWD is no harder than FWD, you just gotta know how to do it. I tried to make mine slide last year and the traction control wouldn't let me. Granted, I didn't stomp on it real hard, but hard enough that it could have gotten away from me.

what kind of bike? I think that you should use the 240 as a true beater and keep the Z in the garage. that way if something bad happens to it than its not a loss. plus the exhaust you just sold me is almost as much as the 240 hah

cant drive a bike in the rain....slow down bro....enjoy the cars one at a time... it took me 15 years to acquire 4 cars...but I always had a nice car and a hooptie..
Z + 240 = anytime driving...bikes are limited...plus people run over bikes all the time in DC....riding one in traffic is just plain dumb IMO.
good luck bro... be safe.

Haha.. buy some sand bags and put it in the trunk of the 240. I used to side backwards on hills and then get stuck by the curb. It really sucked. Get snow tires are all 4 corners.
I actually was going to get my bike license, but with the way people drive here, I will wait until i move to a safer area.

I say keep the 240sx but I might be alittle bias LOL. I driven my 240sx in the snow plenty. Just fill up the gas tank and that's plenty of wieght over the rear. Having a LSD in the snow makes it alittle harder I think (after doing it both ways) because with a LSD your ALL over the place all the time which is fun but a open diff is alittle easier to control on the highway with cars all around.
