Thumbs up My final review on MA-Motorsports

Maybe some of you saw my other thread, but I ended up bringing my car to Mid Atlantic Motorsports in Baltimore to get my suspension installed. I decided to write up something about this shop.

This is a pretty long read but here is the cliffsnotes: This was a painful journey for me and my wallet, but as for my experience with a shop, it could not have been any better.

I just got some bady parts fixed after hitting a curb a while back. The car was back together and i was so excited to get the coilovers installed that i had sitting in my garage for the longest time. Another member on here, fusionrace, had suggested MA motorsports to me earlier but i was skeptical at first since i had never heard of them. After some more suggestions I decided to bring it to MA.
Thread asking about MA

First things first, this is what had to be installed:
Stance GR+ True Coilovers
SPC Front A Arms
SPC Rear Camber Kit

I called MA on monday, as i stated in the other thread, but they were hesitant in returning my calls. Ray, the owner, asked me when i needed the stuff installed, and my response was ASAP. Anyway, he ended up calling me back that day, and i brought the car to them on monday. I met Ray, as well as Brian (who would be working on my suspension) and they were both really cool. I got to check out the sick cars they had in the garage as well. I left there happy that day.

Wednesday came, and with it some problems. Brian called me back and told me that the SPC kit had a stupid part in it for spacing the hubs. He asked me if i thought he really should install that. I gave TH Motorsports (where i bought the thing) and i was told that the shins for the hubs were necessary. So i told brian to go ahead and install them. At this point, the labor was much more than what Brian originally estimated, which scared me (i am pretty much broke right now lol). Throughout all this, I expressed my concern for the price and both Ray and Brian assured me that they would work with me. Brian called back again to tell me a part on my car was probably bent. Something was off, and they didnt know what (this is because i hit a curb before i brought them the car). Ray told me that they would check out the car and let me know what happened. In an hour or so, he called me back to tell me that a control arm was bent about half an inch. (pictures below.) Anyway, I believe wednesday was the day that the A arms were finally on the car. However, there were some problems with this. The ABS sensors werent positioned perfectly since the hub spacers required for them to be repositioned. This caused the car to lock its brakes (known problem with those stupid shins.) Brian told me that on thursday, he would look at it again and try to figure it out.

On thursday, brian and ray both looked at the car and fixed the abs problem. I was really excited and went to MA to pick up my car. But.... I couldnt get over the first rolled speed bump hahaha. So i asked brian to raise my car, and they did so without any hesitation. After an hour, and me eating, i went back to MA and picked up my car (wishing i would not see brian or ray again for at least a couple weeks.) Too bad that wish didnt go too well. right after i got onto 95, my brakes locked and i swerved left to right. It was scary as ****. Anyway , i immidiately called ray to tell him i was on my way back. They took the car back for the night. When I got home, I asked Sharif with Forged what he thought. He told me to get the shins removed - as they were the problem. (and the sad part is... Ray and Brian both told me the hub spacers were a shitty design, and it was a really stupid thing to put on the car when they first began the install. I had called THM then, and they tiold me the shins were required for the design... i feel retarted for making brian do this. Brian if you read this im sorry haha.)

So today (friday), i was out of town all day. Brian called me in the morning, i told him what sharif said, and he said thats what he was going to do anyway. Apparently, he called SPC and asked the lead tech, but all he got for an answer was... "uhhh... welll i dont know." Brian worked on my car all day and just called me back an hour ago to tell me that he had tested the car without the shins through heavy breaking, turning, and speeding. The problem was gone. I couldnt be happier. And I still am. I asked him to make sure it would stay like that, and asked him if he could do a high speed test. And he did, and told me everything was fine.

So, here is the conclusion....
Ray and Brian are both awesome. They know their ****. And they did their best to work with me, and my budget, and my time frame. Since i had told ray that i needed the car ASAP, he took it the day i called him, and they worked on it through the night. They did their best when another shop could have ********ted me and blamed the problems on the product. Through all of the problems, they had no problem with taking the car back and trying again. In all honesty, even though this regularly would have been a five hour job without any problems, Ray and Brian worked so fast and so long to fix my car. They did stuff that they didnt even have to (like fixing the bent parts and taking apart the suspension many times.)

In the end, it has been a very pleasurable experience even though the car gave me so many headaches. (and im sure it pissed of brian too haha.)

Heres the pictures of the bent control arm... haha... its pretty funny. even the bushing was ripped.
The top control arm is my new one, the bottom the old one. Spot the problem! haha.

Ill have pictures of the drop later...

I just wanted to add what was said on g350z.com because Scott has a great point. I am not saying that MA is the best shop ever compared to all the other ones, but I AM saying that they did a really good jobn working with me. ::

Coilover, upper controll arm, and rear camber arm install & even alignment is usually a 2-4 hour job (at most). Maybe if they specialized in these cars (G's and Z's) in the first place they probably would have been able to pin point your bent lower radious arm (its not a controll arm, BTW) a lot easier. This is just an observation. We have seen alot of these pieces bend in front end colisions.

As far as the SPC front upper controll arms, you are right there.... they are pure crap and a horrible design and I would not recomend them to anyone. Not only are they a bad design, I have also seen these things break so be carefull.

I am not trying at all to ruin your experience, just pointing out a nother side. However props to that shop for being a stand up shop and figuring out the problem and being good to work with. It would be sad to have to deal with a shop that couldnt/wouldnt get your job done correctly.
Yes , i understand what youre saying. It would have been an easier experience if they had dealt with this issue before. However, they did not hold me responsible for their mistakes - which was nice. They went ahead and fixed the problem.

And i know what you mean by going beyond the call of duty, and they didn't, but i have dealt with some shops that were persistent on screwing people over. There arent many G/Z shops twenty minutes away from me, and the car was in no shape to be driven far distances. It was just good to have them call at every turn of the project, and for them to take the car back everytime and work with me on my budget. (plus, it was mainly my fault and the store that sold me my camber arms fault that MA installed those spacers. The first day that they had my car apart, Ray told me that he would really rather not install them. Since TH told me that they were required, and me not knowing any better, i told ray to install them. So it was nice of them to listen to the other shop, and then fix something that wasnt their fault.)

As for the SPC arms, i will probably take them off and get new ones when i have enough money. I dont trust them at all, but right now i just cant afford any more work with my car.

Yep. It did cost more than i would have liked it to but that doesn't bother me. Because i actually trust my car now, unlike before.
