Default Third attempt to steal my dirt bike...

Well two tools tried to steal my dirt bike again tonight.

We had just gotten into bed when the wireless infrared alarm started alerting in the house.

Got the Pistol and the Surefire light and went out. One of my dogs managed to get out also. I went around the back of the garage and there was one guy diving through the bushes into a neighbors back yard. Another guy was diving out of my garage window.

I gave him the freeze or I will shoot line. Unfortunately I forgot to put on my glasses so I did not get a real good look. Black clothes.

My dog tore off after one of them. Took the dog two hours to come home after.

Police were there in a couple of minutes (5-7 cars and a K9 unit). They ran the K9 for a while, but never found anything.

You would think that they would not come back after looking down the barrel of a gun more than once...

glad to see you are well protected. +1 on the shotgun pump scaring the bajeezus out of anyone, I think the intimidation factor comes from the idea that someone could blindly fire one and would probably hit their target, lol.

The exact reason why he needs a shotgun!

Chances are when you get robbed, it'll be pitch dark... kinda hard to aim w/ a pistol. Better off w/ a shotgun... no glasses needed!

Damn Kirk, I'm glad you're ok and nothing was taken. Did they do any damage to the garage getting in?

A HUGE +1!

The best home protection I can think of. Have one in my personal residence. Half the time the slide scares people when you're just showing it to them.

The busted out one of the back windows.

I don't have a tactical shotgun so it would be kind of hard to hold the flashlight and wrack the shotgun at the same time.

I now have plywood over all the windows till I can get some custom bars made.

I am going to get a rail mount light/laser for the new .45 soon. As crimson trace says "lasers: helping the criminal make an informed choice"

That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that man. I might have shot the guy just for that.

Dude, that sucks..
I have to agree with everyone on the shotgun thing.. But you need to 'slightly' modify it to really get good home use... ;-)
If you get one that you plan on using SOLELY for home use, ditch the stock, maybe go for the folding stock if you really want it. This makes it about 9 inched shorter and gives any intruder a smaller profile to grab for.
Then change the slide for the pistol grip version as this makes it much easier to both control and rack the slide.
Get the cartridge holder for the side if you think you a few extra rounds, but I would doubt it. Load it with some nice large buck shot so you get a decent spread, but it won't penetrate.
If you want you can get a light mounted to the front easily enough.
The last thing to consider, is if you really want a good home defense weapon, go for the shorter 14 inch barrel. This gives you a much greater in room spread and when going around corners or whatever, really reduces any chance of your opponent from grabbing the front to wrestle the gun away without you being able to shoot him first when combined with the pistol grip stock or folding stock.

Just my .02 of course, but that is what I had at home. Nice Mossberg 500 with the short barrel man I loved that thing.

ahh from a legal aspect i would advise aginst modded guns as a form of self defense. shoting a man in MD for theif does not constitute the use of lethal force(honestly according to md state law he could be *** raping you and its questionable. seriously its bs) nor will any judge look highly on have a questionably legal gun. not saying what you did was wrong but a 45 in the leg is alot easier to defend then blasting a dude in the face with deer shot from 2 feet away with a 14'' barrel and collapsable stock. just saying

if he rolls into your house and come running at you that one thing, but i wouldnt want the consequences of dealing with the b.s. over a 3k bike.

regardless glad nothing was stolen and you didnt get trigger happy

Brent's got the right idea. Except instead of a cartridge holder, I have an extended magazine that'll hold two extra shells. If I shoot something 8 times and its still coming at me, I doubt the extra 4 shells in the holder are going to help.

The idea behind a shotgun is having the threat of force be enough to stop an intruder, without actually having to use lethal force. Like others have said, the sound of it chambering a round is usually enough to make someone soil themselves.

try running a chain lock around your stand, swingarm and through your rear sprocket (assuming you have a stand other than the triangle) this is what i've always done.

that way IF they steal your bike, it will lock up and they'd have to drag it everywhere

see my fantastic illustration attached for example

good luck bro- always lock your **** up
