I've been meaning to bring up this topic for a while and finally decided to do it. We have some wacky girlfriends/wives in the community. I'm not talking about the good ones that came out to the Function:Tuned BBQ with dogs and kids. I'm talking about the grumpy ones that didn't come out and claim that "I don't like those Japanese cars" or "I don't like those people". Even worse the ones that hate our community so much that they try to get their men out of the scene! What is up with that?!?!?!

I personally dated a girl for 3 years who hated my hobby. And guess what? She's obviously no longer around! That's right love it or leave it! To me it's not really about "man up". It's just that if a girl cannot be involved in the one and only one thing that I truly enjoy, how can I say that we are compatible?

I have no idea how many girls I went on a date with complained about the ride comfort of my Z. They never got to see my car and my pen1s again after that one magical date. If you claim that you like me, you have to accept that I love cars and actually like my cars (well okay you don't really have to like my xB).

Now the worst kind of girlfriends/wives are the ones that go, "Peter has a BMW, why don't you get one of those instead of wasting money on modding your Nissan?" I'm sure you guys have ran into one of those and hopefully you're not with one!

Girls that try to change your hobby = FTL

I say it's an honor to come w/ me to a car meet because I'm integrating you into something I love doing - doing this is apart of my life and if she's not willing to accept something that is apart me then she's not willing to accept who I am as a person. Sure this hobby is a big fat waste of money and I can spend it on a trip to Paris for 2 or buy her that new expensive Marc Jacob purse she's been whining about... but guess what!... Nothing is better than your happiness and if spending tens of thousands of dollars in car parts is what makes you happy, then do so! You make your own money so you have every right to spend your own money (yes I know... sometimes the most logical explanation is sometimes VERY difficult to follow for most guys)

We can all agree at the end of the day whether you're rich or poor, sick or healthy, retarded or a genius, handicapped or an Olympian athlete - everyone wants to be happy. With that in mind... why are you gonna let some biznatch tell you what to do? I really don't understand guys who say, "Let me ask the miss..." or "wifey doesn't approve of me buying a turbo kit.." (understandable if you knocked up a 16 yr old and you ain't got no job... but when is this ever the case?) or "gf doesn't want to come out today so I must stay in and kiss her azz and watch chick flicks..." Women will always try to change their bf/husband to become something they think is better (like suggesting them to drive a BMW or pick a different hobby) but in the end - only you know how to be a better you.

I was listening to 106.7 a few weekends ago and on "Red Ring of Fire Radio" they were talking about the roles changing. Women are now dictating how men spend their free time. For instance the amount of Wii being sold is because men are ditching their XBOX 360 or PS3 and buying Wii so they can play with their "significant other."

 

HUGE difference between a wife and a GF IMO. A GF is transitional and can be cut loose even if much time has been shared between the two of you. Wives are a trickier balance between your happiness and hers. Her level of happiness is usually directly tied to how happy you get to be... if you know what I mean.

In my reality, girls that are into cars are few and far between, and even the ones that like cars aren't always great. Nothing worse that your GF/wife rockin better mods than you .

My cars are my escape, my wife offered to come to the F:T meet, all I had to do was take her to Wine in the Woods in Columbia, MD on Saturday - FAIL. She could care less about my cars and thats exactly how I like it .

Majority of the girls I mingle with are somewhat into cars or what not, for the most part dudes hate my car but girls usually love it cuz of the color, I don't get it too much. But my turbo 240 or turbo se-r I got it all the time, it smells like gas or it rides bouncy.

 

LOL memories! This Korean girl told me my car smells and I should get my car checked out. I told her, "Don't worry about it; I swapped out my CATs and put on test pipes." And she goes, "So you actually paid money to get your car to smell like gas?"

Perfect logic!!!

 

Next year then for sure. Last time I went I just carried cases of wine around all day while the wife and her friend got their drink on .

Hoping when I come down to pick up my car I can show up a day early and get a room at Dulles and we can go out and get some drinks.

Abui - call Dave and tell him I can have your spot in the rotation for shop time. You never drive your Z anymore anyway.... I'm behind you and Claude.

Most girls don't understand the passion and drive behind a hobby like this.
A girl must be really interested and patient if they want to be around the car scene like that. Other girls just seem like groupies. I can’t say much on girls that don’t understand the hobby..or try to get their men out of it because I certainly DO NOT fit under that category. As a couple, all Jon and I ever do is cars cars cars and MORE cars and I LOVE IT!
Especially with our S13 project, being around cars and working on cars is all we’ll be doing pretty much until its done..
Then we’ll be able to play on the streets of VA together

 

Exactly! The way I look at it is that. Ok if you don't understand it, at least accept it since after all it's not a bad hobby like smoking crack. It's just like how a lot of women are in love with buying expensive shoes. We men will never understand it but we learn to accept it and maybe just add a little imagination like how they'd look good in bed.
