They certainly aren't cheap. I've never had a chance to see them in person.
yeah they're $90 per corner.
If you have a compressor, you'll be fine. Just make sure the compressor is a good one. I have a picture somewhere of what happens to a garage door when a loaded spring takes off and goes through it. This is why I stopped buying Harbor Freight junk when I need it like yesterday.

Actually I think I can take off the spring without a compressor because to check preload the spring has to be loosened.

This is just about was really happens;

Even one guy admitted to doing the same thing;
? no, the spring will not move. In fact you can see someone else do this. Search for "No spring compressor needed" here on youtube.
I had no idea you needed a spring compressor when I first did a strut lol, almost ****in killed myself. I had the strut in a vice BAMN, that nut was in the air for what seemed like a good 5 seconds.

Some springs dont need to be compressed but most do. I did one car in the past where the spring compressor was pointless. I cant remember what it was, after removing the strut and removing the spring compressor the spring had very little bunch back, welp, so much for that extra step...
id never do springs without one.
For the record I believe it was a low car from factory so it might not have had a lot of preload on the spring, just like installing new lowering springs you almost never need to compress them in order to get the struts back in.

Some Civic/Integra/Neon springs are so weak you don't even need the compressor. These dumb kids cut their factory springs to make their car lower instead of actually buying lowering springs and that just causes there to be less load on them so what's the point? But, better to be safe then sorry.
