Seems like once you go beyond 300+ the motor doesn't like you very much.
STFU and go eat something

I had a friend with a VF, his car ran strong, he didnt have issues with it and he actually beat the $hit out of his car unlike you Making a blanket statement like "dont upgrade the turbo you will have problems" is silly.

Agreed, my car previous to the Z was an 02 WRX, i started with a stg 4 kit from TurboXS back in 02 with a VF30 and all supporting mods. At the time I was stationed in Germany so I street tuned it conservatively (i.e pig rich) was able to get some good tuning on the autobahn. When I got back stateside made 302 whp/ 287 tq on just my tune at BATLground in Atlanta. Had it tuned by Mike at BATLground, to 321/ 312, which ran ultra safe through entire rev range. Next I moved to a Slowboy Racing GT10 (gt28rs w/ subaru fitment) and made 345/ 333 with stock internals, it is possible but like all cars a good state of tune is necessary. My gears never gave out however I did upgrade to the RA set and went through 4 clutches in the 4 yrs I owned it.
Subies are fun to mod just know where you want to draw the line as a DD, had the same problem with the wifes white evo great to drive for fun but not as a DD, thats why we got her the X MR. Wow my longest post ever.

I agree completely. Your final #'s are around what I was happiest with on my WRX. I think around 290-320whp is perfect for a dd on these. Ohhh I forgot to mention you're going to want to test these out in the snow. The best night I've ever had was me in my scooby sliding in and out of warehouse parking lots in the snow. Cop came over just to watch. Good times. Damn I'm really starting to miss my wrx. I might end up selling the TL and picking up another WRX....

If I actually did say the word "upgrade the turbo you WILL have problems," then you might have a point. I said "they tend to," and I also said "seems like" don't jump to conclusions too soon junior. Scroll back to page 1 for reference.

People have different experiences with the EJ20's and I'm speaking on behalf of my own therefore I suggest to not tinker w/ an upgrade. Not to say that an upgrade is the 100% completely wrong thing to do and all hell will break loose. For a DD, I suggest keeping it below 300 on the sole purpose that this is afterall a DD.

People sharing an experience is neither right or wrong, there is no need to try to prove a point when it was a mere suggestion for the OP. If you disagree with a suggestion that was not geared toward you to begin with, telling someone to "STFU" won't solve your problems. A better alternative would have been to accurately state your experience without the negativity or the need to "prove" someone wrong by saying their experience is "silly."

Given the fact that yes, it's usually the tune that will make or break your motor, but you're riding on the edge of the limitations of that motor past 300. Some people like to play it safe, some don't, to each their own. Just like the VQ, Dave has an excellent tune w/ a stock block making 556whp. Best tune in the world or not, at the end of the day: you still have stock internals and there are limits.

hey Ricky how do you deal with having a wrx and the Z? I am so torn cause I dont want the wrx to take away from the Z's modding money but they get fast for so damn cheap. I just rode in a 18g wrx last night with ppg gears and meth injection. 330whp. It was damn quick.....but I have to remember. DAILY DRIVER!

Haha, I dont have to deal with both. My Z is gone now. I can just focus on the WRX.

I see that the Z for you is the weekend type car. The mods you have on the WRX is already enough power to track or backroads. At this point, I would probably work on just cosmetics and suspension.

I wish I still had my Z sometimes, but it was time to move on.

Maybe Tuned by Dan? They don't have a tuner named Mike. My Evo 8 with 751 awhp was the best DD I ever had!!!! I am being serious. Of course I drove it on low boost for DD, but on race gas it had the capability to make 751 (ran 10.58 at the track). I have a Subaru now and I miss my Evo every day
