Default Moving to VA in Oct, Newport News area

I will be in Virgina late October. I will be on Ft Eustis for about 4 months until the beginning of February. While I am there, I want to hook up with some meets and hang out with the local crowd.

Where in that area do people hang out?

I was also wondering, how are the roads up and around there?

I will be showing up with a freshly put on widebody and I wanted to know how much I needed to worry about my ride height.

Here is the car before I sold the kit.

Going with the Do-Luck Widebody now.

Check out VADriven.com for local meets/events focused around imports in general.

The roads in Newport News aren't bad. Pretty much everything on the Peninsula (Newport News, Hampton, Williamsburg, Yorktown) has decent roads. I wish I could say the same for the Southside. 64 in Norfolk is one of the worst highways I've driven on and I have to travel it daily unfortunately.

How is crime in the area? For the first time in YEARS my car will not be garage kept, I worry constantly about this issue. I probably will be staying on Eustis but that is not a guarantee.

I have another question, are there any HKS dealers in the area that can work on F-Cons? I have slim fans and want them wired from my factory harness into my engine management. I know that Forge can do it but they are hella far away from me now and from me when I am up there.

There must be a shop in the area that can work on HKS proprietary products.

Any suggestions?

I work in Ft. Eusits for the school house USAALS, so if you are in for school you will see my car everyday. Most TDYs stay on post so you should not worry about that.

Nov 8 is a fall Z cruise, check this link:

PM if you want to meet, I'll give my phone #. GL

Welcome to Hampton Roads.

I found this shop: http://www.alteredatmosphere.com/home/ when I was installing a F-con on a previous vehicle. Shoot them an email.

There's meet-ups in Hampton, VA every Saturday for time being.

Good luck to you.

Thanks, this shop seems squared away. And based on their pics, it looks like they have an in floor dyno which is awesome!

I will give them a call on monday.

Where are the meets usually and what time are they? Do the location change week to week?

The shop has extensive experience with USDM and JDM Nissans. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

I'll PM you the info on the Hampton meet along with others. I usually hang out with the 240sx or the 300z guys whenever I go. It'll be good have another z33 there.

BTW, if you need some local work done then I would recommend Sage

I'll add to what everyone else has added already....

Newport News, like everywhere has good and bad areas. The difference is the bad areas are REALLY bad, and the good areas are really nice, there's really no "middle of the road". So either you make big $$$ and live in the nice area, or you are in the "bad" area. If you are staying on base, you should be good to go. The Ft. Eustis area is pretty nice. Good rule of thumb, the further towards Williamsburg (North) you go on the Peninsula, the better the area.

Avoid Hampton if you can esp. at night on the weekends.

As people have said, the roads are total garbage on The Southside (Va Beach, Norfolk, anywhere south of the tunnels). The main reason alot of us down here haven't lowered, installed a body kit, spent 5K on rims.

There's usually always something going on, especially on your side of the water, just gotta keep a look out on the forum!
