Default Helmet Suggestions?

I really want to try and make some track and/or HPDE events next season. Any of you got any decent helmet recommendations? I'm pretty much clueless on brands, pricing, what specs to look for, etc...

LOL! If the stormtrooper helmet was SA2005 rated, I would totally rock that!

OP, you probably need to make sure that the helmet is SA2005 rated for track use...most helmets are snell M rated (for motorcyles) and most tracks are cool with that, but some tracks may require SA (automobile) rating...

I personally use the Zamp FSA1 for one reason....its cheap as heck...

Grizz, I checked and it looks like I can't wear my glasses under the Stormtrooper helmet, so that's a no-go.

350z006, I've got two co-workers that ride and one's about to send me some info. I'm on a site right now looking and was wondering what the difference was between moto and car helmets.

clay make sure you try on many different helmets before deciding I tried to do the same b4 buying my motorcycle helmets

AS long as it meets the track requirments then just find the one you feel the most comfortable in weight, size, padding, open or closed face, it all makes a difference.

or just get the cheapest then you wont feel bad if you have to get another one

I actually have no idea what the difference is between a M and SA rated helmet...

I would think that M helmets have more protection than SA helmets, but maybe SA helmets also give protection for fire, which you usually don't have to worry about with motorcycles...There are usually more motorcycle helmets for sale out there than SA helmets...

Either way, just find out what the requirements are for your track, and make your choice from there...

Google pwns me again....FTL

"Auto helmets generally have a higher protection rating that motorcycle helmets. Their a little heaver and some are designed to keep the helmet on your head with air guids for the guys running the open wheel cars.

Look to: Arai ,Bell, HJC, and Sparco.

Be sure to select "Motorsport" helmets.

hope that helps. "

[Note: I just looked at some Arai MA rated helmets and the cheapest one was $700 bucks. I think I might just get a bike helmet and pray I don't crash/burn.]

OG Racing is the place to go. I ordered online and got my helmet within 3 days.

I did the last Track Daze HPDE event with this helmet...worked well for me. Not bad for the price :

Some events dont allow M rated helmets...Your best bet is to get an SA rated helmet so you're covered no matter what.

BTW Clay...please dont get an open face helmet. The poncherello look is not cool.

I'm looking for a helmet myself. Since I don't boost the Z, I'm going to road race the DD. Side note: got a buddy selling his track helm that looks almost just like the one pictured above ^ but used only twice if you're interested.

+1.. PM scott@tougeracing. he has a great price on the HJC helmets... mine should be here Friday!

another good helmet that is on the lower end for cost of the SA rated helmets is the Bell M3. Normal price is pretty expensive, but when I was looking I was able to find some pretty good prices. from what I hear, the HJC and Bell fit very different. I went with the HJC since I know they fit my head.
