Default My Mid-A Peeps!!! Help Me Out!!!

So I've been thinking latelty, and debating on possibly switching up careers. Right now I am a technician at Lexus. As I love working on cars, it kind of drains me of wanting to work on my own car. So I was wondering what eveyone on here does for a living, and maybe list some benefits, salary ranges and what not. Maybe tell me whether you like your job or not? What you had to do to get their. Anyways thanks in advance for all your help!!

Rob

My title is a bit weird..

Senior Information Systems Engineer (Basically computer programmer)
You'd need at least a bachelor degree in computer science/computer engineering/information systems
In this area you'd make 50k+ easily right out of college. The salary range is huge. And IT manager could easily make 120k - 150k with like 15+ years of experience. And with say computer science as your background, there're so many areas you could advance into. Personally I've been a software tester, hardcore programmer, IT strategic consultant, database administrator, systems administrator and now systems engineer.

Nice, my dad does some kind of computer programming for Microsoft. Alot of traveling, alot of $$$. Haha. I'm not cut out for that type of work, I would get aggravated too easily. I'm thinking along the lines of some office job, dealing with business or accounting. Possibly maybe even website design or graphic designer. I did a little bit in my old votec before I graduated, and I actually had fun doing it. Def a different type of job, that would never be the same as the last job. I'd even like to be able to work from home when needed.

Thanks for the quick responses guys

You're in Annapolis so there should be a bunch of jobs right up your alley.

I think if you stay where you're at long enough you'll advance. Hmm lets say GM of Lexus? or service manager?

If your around Annapolis look into working for MWR(Morale Welfare Recreation). There civlians that work all over for the military. You do things like run the commisaries,or store, mow the athletic fields, you know stuff like that. They throw parties organize trips. Its a goverment job so you get great benefits and I have a buddy who left the Navy and works for them and he started @ $15-$20.

There's always security too. If you have a gun permit or something you can always try to get into a security firm driving armored trucks or private security. Thats a field thats always hiring and they make a good chunk of change.

+1 on Ethan's post. Anything computer related and you're golden, especially in this area. The only problem is getting that BS or MS in EE/CS/CpE might make you poor and frustrated for a while (4 - 6 years). The easiest way in is to be a software tester and go to school at the same time. Most companies will pay for your education so its really not a bad deal. The only problem is accepting the computer nerd life style (sitting in front of monitors all day).

If you enjoy traveling abroad, you can do so and make a ridiculous amount of money by teaching English in Asian countries like Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, etc. It is ridiculous how much Asian people value education. Use that to your advantage and give in to the Asian fever.

There is and always will be a need for health care professionals. I don't know if you're the kind to care about image more than lifestyle, but 2 years @ NoVA and you can get your nursing license and make $28/hr with unlimited tuition reimbursement for continued education. True, you'll be a male nurse and probably end up standing on your feet for 12 hours a day, but having an unlimited tuition budget is an awesome trade off (sorry, its the Asian in me). Most companies pay anywhere between 5k to 15k a year for your tuition.
