Default Will I pass emissions?

http://www.conceptzperformance.com/C...&Car_Type=370Z

Going to order the above Kinetix cats. They say that these won't prevent me from passing emissions (nor will it cause a CEL) but I wanted to get opinions here.

I'm due for emissions this January and then I'm free for two years so should I get them now or wait until after January 2011?

I personally don't have Kinetix but they don't look like they have O2 extenders nor do they have brackets to keep the vibration down. Granted, you can do the nofoulers hack but that's another trip to advanced and 30 minutes drilling. I believe Berks have O2 extenders and brackets on their revised HFC. Expect to pay $100 more for Berks.

Also, make sure you soak those bolts for some time prior to removing the cats otherwise you'll end up stripping a bolt.

what year is your car??

and they are HFC's Im pretty sure all of them will allow you to not throw codes. I have TP's and I dont throw codes on my 03

I would do some research on those though.. the kinetix TP's were known for cracking Im not sure about the HFC's

Worst case scenario, you take a few hours out of your day to swap the stock cats back in next Jan (remember to give yourself some time because the car needs a few miles to cycle out of the pending state after you clear the CEL). You should probably slap on some anti-seize on those bolts.

HFCs you have nothing to worry about. Keep in mind that HFC's "break up" over time giving you this nice marble in a tin can sound. Better off getting test pipes and calling it a day. LaBree is what you want. Either or, you won't have problems passing emissions. I past with test pipes and a twin turbo. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the replies.

I have an 08 Nismo and I'm in VA. I think the Kinetix cats have an option to buy foulers so I'll be sure to get those.

I believe the newer Z's have really sensitive O2 sensors. But then again, things like this are hit or miss. Search for it, but I know some 07+ have CEL issues when using HFCs let alone TPs. Hell, I had a CEL issue with stillen headers and STOCK cats.

Realistically, it may not be worth the hassle unless you go all out (n/a bolt ons + tune) but it's your car.

I've done some more research and found out that they don't yield a better noise difference if you stay with the stock exhaust and that as someone else posted, eventually, they deteriorate and need to be replaced.

Maybe then it isn't worth the $500 or so to order and install the cats.

Passed with AAM test pipes and HKS exhaust today. I had 2 codes this morning that I erased right before I went. I did the test and it came back as "inconclusive" so I drove around for exactly 20 miles and went back. The guy that did the test told me it would do the same thing again. He was kind of surprised when it passed the second time without any issues.

not trying to steal this thread, but for all you living in MD, what does the emission test include (visual inspection, look at codes, sniffer)?

I have TPs with the XO2 exhaust - i do get a heavy gas smell when sitting a stop with the windows open, but i know this is typical for those with TPs.

Test pipes with O2 spacers, I passed emissions twice with no hook up, car was too low to look under to see if the cats were there or not.

^ If you don't mind, pm me where you get your emissions done. It would be nice not to have to go to a billion places.
