My AC unit took some extense!
Local places wanted 6700+ for it installed, I did a cash job + help from me on the install for $5000
and that's with a 15 seer not the 14 seer the other companies were gonna put in. Plus I get a $1500 rebate on taxes woot!

You have to spend $5000.00 to get the $1500 rebate so yeah I paid $5000
I know it's hard to tell but the 2nd picture is the new unit.

I'm as Asian as they get. I aint spending money on nothing I can't do myself.
For the most part the HVAC guy did most the work, I just helped with smaller things as with moving everything into place. Although to be honest if I had the paper that allowed me to buy the unit and handle gas. I would have done the job myself with out thinking twice.

Every hvac company that did an estimate listed train as the units.
Is it the best or is it the best known as being the best there is a major difference just look at bose stuff. Although train imo is no different quality wise then carrier I do think bose sucks vs anything else so maybe bad example there
Meh thought about it but talking with different ac guys on a friends level they all said they enjoy selling train units but use carrier. Main reason is parts the guys I talked to said train parts can be a pain to get where every local place carries carrier parts.

I did commercial hvac for a good 3-4 years haha and we always seemed to run into more problems with everything else but train i think we worked on 2-4 train units... idk just from experiance they seem like a better unit then everyone else.... either way good choice they all work haha
Nice Jeffie. Solid unit you got there and a damn good deal too.
So how was the install? I know you "helped" but was it what you expected? Just curious
And fwiw. Trane wholesale/dealer prices are cheaper than Carrier that's why everyone pushes them.

Cut copper lines going to/from the units, remove old units, install new units. outside unit was nothing more then leveling the new base and setting the unit on top then installing a new power box/running wires. all easy stuff. then soldering the copper lines to the unit.
on the inside you do need to cut out the left or right side of the heat exchange, tin snips made for an easy job. using self tapping screws screw everything together, set the new coil on top of the heat exchange and screw/tap everything up.
Run new gas line, run new drain line, run new exhaust lines, solder copper lines in to new unit and wrap with the form wrap. then wire up the power. flush system, evac the system then charge it.
meh, sure as hell isn't worth $4000 or so in labor people want to charge.
