They charge 2 1/2ish hours of tuning though it only really takes an hour.....maybe 90 minutes. It is just like when having a clutch installed.....they bill you for 5, but it may only take 2-3 for shop to do. I have no problem with that. FI should just be an open ended amount of time at the same labor rate. It is already going to take at least 4 hours........but could take 6 or more. Like you said....it is much more variable than tuning an NA car. Not to mention...............just about every other shop around (good and bad) charges a flat tuning rate......not depending on NA or FI. I like both Franks...I think they do an excellent job.....this is my only contention.
I've been around this for awhile and had thought about what's fair and unfair in terms of pricing. The biggest problem is for a shop to come up with a quote and stick to it. We as customers always expect to get a quote before the work is performed and we also expect the final bill to be less than or equal to the quote. And if it's over, we're not happy. And for shops to protect themselves, they always have to quote slightly higher to give themselves rooms for not losing money. And in the case that they do finish the work in less time than quoted, they view it as "we did a speedy job" and so they still charge for the remaining hours as profit. I personally don't see anything wrong with that. If you agree with the original quote, doesn't that mean you view it as "it's a fair price and labor rate" to begin with? What if the mechanic/tuner is just so good at his job that he could finish something in 1/2 the time of another mechanic and the quality is just as good if not better? Now that doesn't sound too fair to some people. How about when a shop quotes u 2 hours of labor but ends up spending 4 hours on a tune but only charges u for 2 hours? I don't hear anyone complaining about that

I agree. Its nothing I hate more than agreeing to $ and the total changing to $$$ when I get the final bill. Now if they told me $$$ in the beginning I'd be ok with it because I knew before hand.

lol I cant even tell there is anythign wrong at all but frank feels it and wants it fixed soo I am just fine with that

EVERYTHING should be done within the next two weeks. we blocked off a day ten days from now to finish off the rear end. So once that is in and done we are doing final tune

when frank has people that need to be tuned they call frank smith then schedule him when he is available that works best for the customers.
