We have to start somewhere and if that means a little diversity in track days until we get to the point of being self sufficient then I'm all for that. this

and once a year should be fun and if the people that come initially have a great time then i think more will come each subsequent year

I think a good compromise is to use the Cumberland autocross as a seasonal meet. It is a two day event (with very inexpensive lodging), has a cookout after the Sat autocross, and is a very high speed autocross. Some other clubs use it as their seasonal meet/bbq. They are accommodating to car clubs as well. Just a thought.

I like that!! It sounds like a good starting place for everyone! We could more advanced AutoX'ers come and give their tips for successful autocrossing. You know not driving instruction, but pre-prep information that may be good to the new AutoX'er. What do you think?

There is significant up front cost to running an auto cross. You need over 100 cones, timing equipment, etc. Not too mention acquiring a lot and insurance for the event. It would be best for us to piggy back off an existing club like CDC.

well for an unofficial event we need stop watches and cones lol

I was joking about trying to run a autocross ourselves it would be very costly and allot of supplies like you said. I am all for doign it with another club though. Maybe we can talk to CDC this winter and plan for one in the spring

What we could is try to schedule our event during one of the test and tunes. They are typically in Frederick, but that is by far the smallest lot they run. I can talk to Ed Chan about it at Bowie on the 25th.

I agree let's do one in the spring. That way we can plan it and promote it!

Yeah that is a significant cost as the cones are not cheap. Timing equipment is not as expensive. The insurance is what is super expensive. My last race at Bowie this guy named Dan that drives a miata in the CDC said the insurance policy minimum to secure the FEDEX field lot is 1 Million dollars!!

It doesn't cost 1 million. You just have to have a policy that will cover up to 1 million in damages. Still expensive as hell though.

As always you do not have to be a member of BMWCCA to attend ChapterFest. Also you do not have to drive a BMW to attend. I want to stress that all CDC autocrossers are welcome to register for any event at ChapterFest. Any concerns can be pm'ed to me or Ed. We had a long conversation with respect to past issues some people may have had with NCC Autox.

Well folks, it’s that time of year again. ChapterFest is just around the corner and it is shaping up to be our best event thus far. This year, ChapterFest has been moved back to Bowie Baysox Stadium and will take place on Saturday, October 30th.

Please visit http://www.chapterfest.com for detailed information on each of the events and instructions on how you can register to participate. The issue we had last year with space due to the trailers parked on the lot will not be an issue this year. We will have use of the entire lot area and have parking for over 1000+ cars. Please feel free to post questions you may have. Also, we will have 6-8 people working the gate at peak times to help move things along.

We are strongly encouraging everyone to pre-register, this includes general admission. With the number of people we are expecting, pre-registration will help expedite the check-in line. Pre-registered Autox participants will share a dedicated check-in lane with Street Survival. When you visit the ChapterFest site, click “ChapterFest Registration” to register for general admission or any additional events. I know some people hate registering for events, but this is the easiest way for us to manage a crowd this large for this type of event.

ChapterFest is the BMWCCA National Capital Chapter’s premier celebration for all car enthusiasts. In 2008, more than 250 people attended and in 2009, attendance doubled to more than 500. Both years attracted BMW CCA members and non-members from all over the east coast, with folks coming from as far north as New Jersey and as far south as North Carolina. This year, we hope to welcome more than 1,000 BMWCCA members and enthusiasts!

ChapterFest 2010 will encompass everything we do as a chapter. We will, of course, have Autocross. BUT WAIT…THERE’S MORE!!
The roads’ newest and youngest drivers will participate in our nationally recognized Tire Rack Street Survival School for teenage drivers. If you have a new driver or are a new driver, this is the event for you.

Thanks to the involvement of US Karting, our karting league will have a karting course to feed your inner speed demon.

A Concours d’ Elegance will display some of the cleanest cars you’ll ever see. If you want to understand how the pros detail their cars, maybe the detailing tech sessions will be for you.

In addition, thanks to BendPak donating the use of four 4-post lifts, the DIY and Ladies’ DIY committees will each run DIYs and tech sessions throughout the day. After ChapterFest, BendPak is selling the 4-post car lifts at a discounted price. See the ChapterFest site for more info. If you are interested in purchasing the lifts, contact diy@chapterfest.com.

Dinan is signed on to run tech sessions. There will be items raffled off from companies such as Borla, Michelin, Slime, Griots and more.

As in years past, lunch is included with the cost of admission and will be handled by Red, Hot and Blue. There will be covered seating for use throughout the day as well as plenty of beverages throughout the venue. We are also looking for a funnel cake vendor. If you have a recommendation, please forward their info to vendor@chapterfest.com

Lastly, in response to our female attendees, we will have dedicated men and women bathroom facilities with flushable toilets and sinks for hand washing. We will also have handicap accessible facilities.

Currently, we are looking for a licensed electrician to donate an hour or two of their time and are looking at options for a kids’ area.

If you are participating in Autocross this year, we are using Motorsportreg.com for registration. If you already have an MSReg acct, then the only thing you may have to do is add your number preferences and emergency contact information. Go into “My Account”, click edit vehicle in “Garage” and add your three number choices.
Sign up for an account if you do not have one. You only need to provide as much info as you deem necessary. Mandatory information is your car number preferences and emergency contact information. When you register for ChapterFest, you can choose to register for any additional activities. When you choose Autox, your first available choice number will auto-populate. Choose your class and group.
On DLB, you are used to seeing S1, S2, S3, S4, M1, M2 and so on. The letter was your class and the number your group. For ChapterFest, you will see stock, tuner, modified under Class, and under Group you will see 1, 2, 3, 4, X1, X2, X3, X4.
So there is a little difference from what you are used to, but not too complicated. If you have questions or issues, feel free to email, Doug DuCoté, the NCC Autocross Chair at autox@chapterfest.com.
If you plan to Autox and compete in the Concours, you will need to compete in the afternoon AutoX heat. We will make accommodations for attendees planning to do both AutoX and Concours so they get all of their runs completed.
Access to the paddock will begin at 6am.

General Admission is $16 with pre-registration and $21 dollars day of event. If you are interested in volunteering 2 ½ hours of your time, the general admission fee will be waived. Please contact volunteers@chapterfest.com.

Check the ChapterFest site periodically for updated information.

Mark October 30th on your calendar now! ChapterFest 2010 will not disappoint. There will definitely be more to do and see.

Cheers,
The National Capital Chapter’s ChapterFest 2010 Committee

Sucks about Skyline, it used to be such a fun meet.

I say we all meet up and go cruising, get some food, then go terrorize some backroads. I hope my car willo be ready by then...
