Tonight I ate a loaded Chipotle Burrito and a McRib, I washed it down with a wild berry smoothy, I AM NOT going anywhere. I feel fine so far, its been about 2 hours but I'm waiting....... It shall be bad.

On another note, Clay, just replaced the seal? details?

Pretty much pulled the toilet up, installed a new wax ring and replaced all the seals and gaskets, then reseated it and put new caulk down. Why this cost $640 I have no idea but I can rest assured that no more poo flavored water will rain down on my neighbor's head.

Weird, figured it would be more then just that.

What was it, $4.86 in parts?

When you say seals and gaskets did he rebuild the toilet? Meaning he replaced all the insides. If so that rebuild kit runs about $20.00

That's why when he quoted me the various options he kept getting the and the face from me. He told me since Kohler is a high end toilet the parts cost more. That's why he gave me the choice of taking my nice toilet and replacing it with a cheaper one which would've been about $500 something. And I'm pretty sure the Kohler I bought at Home Depot was only about $300 brand new.

If you knew thats all it needed why didnt you ask someone like me?
If you drained the toilet I could have had it replaced with a new one for about $250 for a comfort hight oval toilet. Or The Kohler rebuilt kit is $116 (just googled it) maybe for a different model toilet? the universal rebuild kit that works with both 2 and 3 bolt toilets is $19,xx from home depot/lowes. chances are unless you have a funky toilet, that would have worked just fine.

Once drained total time to remove/rebuild/replace a toilet is around 30 minutes.

Removing and replacing a toilet is a lot different then ripping up the flooring and tub and reinstalling a new floor and tub like we talked about.

You've seen my house, damn near everything has been replace. within the first month I replaced 2 toilets and rebuilt 2 others.

I don't care what anyone says, being a homeowner f*cking sucks. Shoulda stayed in my damn apartment.

No, he got a rebuild kit and a new wax ring I think. Besides you're Chinese, $20.00 is too much for a whole bathroom remodel.

In clay's defense, my guess is that was for the whole job.

First, the call out to find the problem. that alone is going to be 75-125 then the 2nd trip for the fix, that could be another 75-125 + parts at maybe 100-150 + the half hour or so of labor.

it adds up fast.

it does no arguing with that, but the other alternative of just changing the entire toilet itself for a ok one from Home depot would be cheaper.

He could done a DIY and saved some big bucks.

My only DIY jobs involved paint, wallpaper and minor woodwork. And installing a new thermometer. Plumbing/electric I call a pro, no matter how much it hurts.

That's where you needed to talk to me once you see it and realize just how easy it is. You wouldn't think twice about doing it yourself. Most things in a house are simple even electrical you just have to get past the first step once you are into it it's not bad Plus spending 20 vs 600 makes it that much better

Perhaps, but I already had one plumber flake on me and this was kind of a priority job seeing as how my neighbor already narc'd me out to the condo association. So it was imperative I get this fixed soon. Not sure what's going to happen with the damage done to the wood beams/mount in his ceiling but I guess we'll deal with that one later.
BTW, does where's Chen's room at Casa de Jeffie? I've never seen it on any of my visits....
