They (politicians) will blame big oil and speculators, but the state and fed benefit from high priced gas more than any other. It would boggle your mind to know the sum collected from gas taxes. The gov makes exponentially more per gallon than the oil companies.

Maryland is claiming they need money for road repairs hence the increased tax on gas.

Correct, but historically they always say that. Then it goes to public transport after they promise it to road repairs. It won't be any different this time.

If I were to jump ship for fuel reasons I'd get a Tdi
Hybrids = weak sauce. CRZ does what? 40mph? drop the batteries and do 45+ with TDI
