Every now and then.
But really, what did you have in mind? You can do anything you want. Are you just trying to change out the gauges for a different color?
Hardest part of a gauge install is getting the line that carries the power/info to/from the gauge, mounting isn't bad at all. Gotta find a 12 volt switched source meaning its only on when the key is turned on. and then also find ways to run the lines from the sending unit. Depending on the gauges, you might also hook up the line from the headlight switch that dims the gauges when you turn on your headlights.
In the past when I've had gauges in my daily drivers I always added a toggle switch so I could kill every gauge's light with a single flip of a switch. Anytime you screw around, the last thing you want is gauges blaring to police. I'd rather blend in.

Ive swapped the 3 factory guages in the center console but not the guage cluster.
I had some crappy, hardly visible, highly innacurate SRTI guages, but now I have Defi CR advanced series guages and they look S I C K. I have a total of 6 defi guages in the car now. If I mounted my boost controller and guage controller in view you would think you are in an F-16 with all the lights, guages, meters, lol...

Plumber's coming this Friday. A leak from somewhere in my bathroom has basically caused some early rotting to begin in the beams between my condo and his. He cut a big hole in his ceiling to show me. It's the fault of the previous owners and partly mine from wasting money on the car and not taking care of home improvements first.
