Well at least if the government shuts down, you can go home. I am stuck in the Stan and if they are not paying me, I'm gonna have real heartburn with working in a combat zone for nothing...

I would think you would classified as emergency or necessary personnel. In all other shut downs the govt has given back pay to their employees.

(CBS/AP) Updated at 5:45 a.m. Eastern.
WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration warned Wednesday that a federal shutdown would undermine the economic recovery, delay pay to U.S. troops fighting in three wars, slow the processing of tax returns and limit small business loans and government-backed mortgages during peak home buying season.

Military personnel at home and abroad would continue to earn pay, but they wouldn't get paychecks until there was a budget agreement and government operations resumed.

Defense chief Robert Gates, addressing about 200 U.S. troops in Iraq on Thursday, vowed that if the government did shut down, America's service members "would be back paid" in full, eventually.

You didn't think that they would really stop getting paid did you? Its also out in the news that Mr Obama plans on freezing Military pay next year and not giving us a raise. Not only have we been at war for the last 10 years, but the last 2 years we have recieved the smallest pay raises since WWII. Really makes you think that someone doesn't appreciate the job that we are doing here. I have soldiers that live paycheck to paycheck, and being in the Stan, their families will be struggling on their own without them. It is already stressful enough being here, but to add stress wondering how your family is going to survive with not getting paid? It is not looking good. Even if you do not agree with the war, please pray for the soldiers of this country. We didn't ask to come here, but we will do our job.

good luck to all of you with government or contractor jobs. Hope it all works out and you come away with minimal loss.

I just really hope nicole still has a job after all of this

I am kinda glad now I got out of Gov Contracting. Question though… Are some of you losing your jobs?? or just leave without pay indefinitly? or like temp (set amount of time) leave without pay??

We still technically have our jobs, but we are prohibited from reporting to work if deemed a non-essential employee. And they've already circulated the news that Feds [civilians] won't be getting back pay for this. Of course, all of this could change if the Dums/Repulitards get their sh*t together and agree on somehting for once tonight.
