How cute. How do you even know the first day? I have no clue the first day of me and Linh. It's hard enough keeping track of the date on the marriage license let alone the date we started dating.
Dave might have some tips for you. Hes done a handful of 1 year anniversaries.

National Harbor is a good choice, but only if you take the water taxi from Alexandria so you get a scenic view going to and from the harbor... BUT, only if you celebrate on a Friday and IF your dinner is booked before 9:30pm. I would make it so dinner ends right around 8:45, they have a free fireworks display every Friday night so you can get a front row seat if you're chilling on the lawn at the ******* hotel. Afterward, water taxi ride it back to Alexandria and enjoy old town. There's a Cosi's that opens late, go there for smores.
P.S. be sure to book 1 week in advance if you want to dine anywhere on a Friday night at the harbor. It gets PACKED. And be ready to have your checkbook handy, it gets a tad bit pricey.
another idea... that huge botanical garden up in PA (forgot the name, but google it up,) it's about 1.5hrs from you. Good scenery and picnic area if you want to do a daytime event.
Take a trip to Mount Vernon (this will be an entire day event.) Took my girl here and she absolutely LOVED it. They have a restaurant here that you need to book 2 weeks in advance to get a table.
Book a night on the Spirit of Washington for dinner and dancing, they have events every weekend.
there's literally a million things you can do around here, all depends on what type of things she's into.

Another idea is to go to Costo to buy a King size mattress. Their NOVA foam is amazing and price is very reasonable. What you do with it is entirely up to you. Now while you're there pick up a case of soda and put a few of those sample foods in your pocket and you're good to go!
