So really what does one drag racing with an automatic? Do you strategically step on the gas pedal at the perfect moment?

I was just going to ask the same thing. It's not like the manual shift mode is useful or has a quick shifting paddle shifter.

Really it's all in the launch, that's where most of the skill comes in when dragging an automatic. Crappy launch=crappy ET, since the AT will shift for you. Manual Shift mode is most useful to keep the car in a gear while going through a turn (AutoX/road racing).

In my previous Z, someone raised the rev limiter to 7100. When the car was in automatic mode, it would shift at the normal redline. However, I could rev it past redline ONLY in manual mode. So it does have it's uses.

I think trans go shift kit and a paddle shift kit would be pretty cool.

Im at capitol raceway right now. Just ran a 13.46, breaking my record of 13.52. If I can do it you can do it Shin!

Oh, there is some guy with a GT-R doing 11.9's. H's run twice so far. The announcer said it was "one of those new 350's."

smh

It's all about timing with an auto, And how much to pre
-load depending on the stall.....which takes some trial and error but basically zero skill (unless you are high hp, then you actually have to correct)

However when I ran 13.92 in Shins Z , I launched off idle after a nice warm up of the tires...pretty simple, but fun

Skills y0! Makes me want to swap out my 6 speed for an auto.

6 speed, you need to worry about how fast to drop the clutch how fast to push in the throttle and when to let the two cross over. It will take great timing everytime to knock off good times.

auto = hold down brake. Push the throttle in until you reach the desired RPMs once the light turns green you let off the brake and floor the gas. Once you figure out the desired RPMs to take your throttle up to while holding in the brake, you will do the same thing every single time over and over and over again.... MAJOR SKILLS needed Y0.

Or you can just do what Zain did and go from zero throttle to 100% throttle once the light turned green. You used major skill trying to dial in your throttle/brake combos and after x many runs, the brown dude knocked .10 second off your fastest time of the day with zero trial and error, just floored it. SKILLZ Y0!

If you're talking about a 600WHP auto car then ok I'lll give you some credit but for something that might be putting out 230WHP....... yeah um no.

As for shifting at a higher RPM in manual mode, depending on where your car is making its power you might run slower then letting the car shift sooner.

But you know that already.

It's a known fact that that you run a faster time with a raised rev limit. Maybe you would know that if you actually did any drag racing...recently.

But whatever. I haz no skillz

For the 350Z or all cars? I said it depends on where the car makes power.

Most people that raise their limiters end up taking the car past its sweet spot and the car starts losing power rather then shifting and putting the car back into a better power/rpm range.

You keep forgetting I've had my share of drag racing. I haven't done it in years since I never really got into it. It was fun but nothing I'm willing to pay to do again as with make a night of it. Its not my thing.

I don't have anything planned that day, so I'll do my best to make it as well. Keep me updated if anything changes?
