Default What you guys think? WRX?

Im selling the 240sx and possibly the Z. Had a guy offer me this 2002 wrx w/ 118k miles on it. Plan was to sell both the cars to get a Subaru wrx/2.5rs with whatever cash i had left over. I dont know much about Subarus except they have a weak engine at about 130k? Bearings go bad i think?

looking for a decent DD that can get me through the snow and still have a fun car.

If anyone can shed some light on what i should look for or be cautious about, that would be very helpful.

Or it was brought back to stock.....

The 2.0L have problem with the third cylinder rod bearing early on in their lives. You will probably have to rebuild that soon on that car.

Also, the tranny is really weak. I would test drive the heck out of it just to make sure that it does not grind through the gears.

Other than that, they are as good as the maintenance they received.

budget exhaust & budget wheels

110k miles... which means start looking for a motor swap within the first year of ownership

CF hood & STi scoop is good, functional.

Body looks to be in good condition. However if I were you, I'd opt for a 05 STi or 06+ WRX. Everything else sucks... unless it's a 00/01 2.5 RS!!! (which decimate all)

On a side note, there's a guy selling a 03 WRX w/ a full 06 STi swap (everything including motor + trans + hubs etc) for $10k. That is a flippin' steal if everything checks out.

Two big main things to look out for:
1. headgaskets changed after 100k miles
2. all 4 wheel bearings are still in 1 piece. They tend to go out fairly often. Check by jacking the car up and wobbling the wheel left/right up/down. Any play = time to replace.

Minor things
1. Front/rear O2 sensor still work (they tend to go out quite often on these cars and can cost up to $200 per sensor) Bring a scanner w/ live data to monitor the voltage, and obviously to pull up any codes (if it has any)
2. Front/rear main seals have been changed, especially the rear since it's a b!tch to reach. You'll know if you see oil residue seeping from anywhere besides the oil pan.

That's pretty much all I can think of. The rest of the car is pretty solid.

Just get whatever beater car gives you the best bang/buck. Worry about another fun car once you get out into your new place and everything is settled in.
