I have a 2007Z with Goodyear Eagle GTs 225/245 and I was wondering what people did to improve their cars handling in the winter? I am using all season tires, which i know arent as good as winter, but for the mild va winters this is good enough. Still, I would like to know what my options are. Chains? Putting 45lb stacks of weight in the back?

I ran regular old stock tires last winter and got around fine. Most people use blizzack tires for snow though.

 

Shin your car and you will be able to race 80-130 in the snow no problem.

Just be warned FWD hondas will catch you off guard in the snow when you hit it at 80.

 

I improved the handling by parking it in the garage all winter.

the word blizzak means:

Blizzzzzzsard and Alaska (AK)

get a set of these and trust me, ice is no problem. I put some on my wifes jetta and took it up an unplowed (24 inches of snow that weekend) 45 degree incliine. I only got stuck on the way down when i backed into a huge plowed snow bank on the street. So I just went back up the hill, moved over and came back down.

when you can buy a tire with studs in them, they are made for EXTREME condition.

WARNING: blizzak tires DO NOT perform well at all on dry surfaces... the car is VERY, I mean EXTREMELY spungy on turns. You need to forget youre in a sports car and think, im now driving a bus, because you will slide off the road on dry pavement taking a corner at stock tire speeds.

be warned, they suck on dry, outstanding in/on snow/ice!

You don't have to buy Blizzak's per se, any decent snow tire will greatly enhance the driving experience in the snow.

First real experience driving in the snow for me this year. Just moved to PA. Luckily, it's been a mild winter thus far. I probably should swap my tires out, but so far I've just been stupid gentle with every thing I do. I wish I could garage her for the winter, but she's my daily driver so I'll have to make due. Any ACTUAL helpful snow driving tips?

I daily drive my Z. I will not hesitate to call out for anything over an inch of snow. Its just not worth it. Im originally from CT and the first thing you learn about driving in the snow is that the majority of other people dont know how to do it.

Like people said, tires are a must. PM WYZIWYG for a good deal on standard stock 350z rims and put some really good snow tires on them. Ive noticed changing lanes on the highway can get a little hairy. Keep the speeds reasonable and keep away from the throttle. Nice and easy. Also, practice in a parking lot. Not just doing burnouts and donuts, but make some nice easy turns and accelerate until you start to lose it. You will be able to figure out where things get scary. And Im serious about just staying home. Nothing good happens to Zs when its snowing. I dont care who you are.
