Default Local Commercial HVAC Company - Job Openings

Hey guys, I know jobs can be hard to come by in the current economy so I figured I'd share this here.

I am a burner technician for a commercial heating and air conditioning company: Capitol Boiler Works. I have been informed there are currently several positions open for "helpers" and parts runners. Helpers assist technicians in completing jobs etc. And a parts runner obviously runs parts to technicians as they need them.\

This is a full time job, 6:30am to 3pm mon-fri with overtime being common.

We offer services pertaining to the following:
Boilers
Heating systems
Air conditioning systems
Pumps
Electrical
Insulation
Refractory
Burners
Welding
Plumbing
Fabrication

Etc..

There can be a fair amount of labor / dirtiness involved, so if you're hella weak or afraid of getting dirty, this isn't for you.

Requirements:

Be to work on time
Work hard and smart
Don't wine and compain while working
Be 18 or older with a valid driver's license and no criminal record
You will also have to pass a drug test

And that's about it for requirements.

I do not make salary decisions as I am only a technician but on average I'm going to estimate a helper with NO prior experience would get compensation of about $10-$13 an hour starting.

Also, take note that this is a GREAT opportunity for a someone to get into trade work and move up. Meaning electrician, plumber, welder, steam fitter, burner technician, etc. The more you know, the more you get paid.

As motivation, I am 22 and make 70k+ a year (not including overtime) and I've only been doing this for 4 years, and I do not have any kind of college degree. Obviously you will have to learn and work hard to advance your salary as with any other career. If college isn't for you, this could be your alternative. Just sharing!

Sorry for the long read, but just figured I'd share this with you guys.

Also for anyone interested who didn't bother looking at the website, we are located in Springfield, VA right off the beltway.

ALSO. If you show that you are interested in staying in this kind of field, they will send you to classes to get licenses, such as journeyman's electricians license, hvac license, cfc license, etc. COMPLETELY FREE. not likely to happen the first year you work there though especially if you've never done this kind of work before.

Basically, if you end up wanting to make a career of this, you're set. As long as you can learn and work. I am currently in my third year of electrical classes (btw its nothing like college, one day a week for 3 hours and it's free).

Bump...Pretty cool you posted this up op!

In high school I use to help my dad with some residential HVAC work. Tough, dirty at times but my dad (and me) made some decent money just doing side jobs for people. He could have started his own business but he did not take the risk, to bad really because these guys do make some big $$$ in the summer and winter months.

No, actually it doesn't. It is not my dad's company. My dad works for the same company yes, and is in a higher position than me; but he is not my boss nor does he decide my wages. I may have said in another thread that I work for my dad, because it's easier than explaining how it actually works. My boss works for a guy who works for my dad, etc. I don't directly work for him. Also, at $70k+ per year, I am the lowest payed burner technician in my company.

I already suggested this to Shin in multiple posts and he didn't acknowledge them. Didn't sound like he was interested in this kind of work anyways.

As for the motivation, it's pretty self explained. I'm not trying to be conceited by saying this, but not too many people who are 22 make 70k+ a year with or without any kind of degree. And living in an area such as the Mid-A where you have DC, Arlington, Baltimore, etc, there is a very high demand for what my company does. So the motivation part was aimed towards someone who may read this, such as Shin, that isn't really going anywhere or who wants to try something different. Not really motivation to someone who has a career already. That is all I meant.

They sure do! I specialize in the heating side. So you can imagine how busy my winters are (no joke, worked darn near 100 hours last week ). 4 grand in a week? I'm not complaining.
