Looking forward to the drags this year to see where my setup is at right now. Still a season away from making any real power, but just having it running over the summer will be fun.

Car is only as fast as its driver... regardless of power level you have lots of practice to do! Took me a couple dozen runs to get from low 13's to high 11's at the same power level! And forget about running street tires with a 6mt. Do yourself and your axles a favor and pick up a set of bias plies before you hit the track. It's like a whole new world... street tires are not only dangerous for your car on the track but they are absolutely no fun at all.

He should be able to hook up on street with bolt ons..... but a set of radials/slicks would definitely be better , and they can be found pretty cheap

I am trying to Hit the track next Saturday (first Saturday I will have off in forever)If anyone is interested, hopefully Cecil will be open, if not I would be up for MIR

I don't have any of my go fast parts on yet, but still looking forward to running

With the LS torque monster under the hood and a manual trans he's probably gonna have a hard time avoiding wheel hop with any kind of radial. You automatic guys are spoiled with your slush boxes.

So I shouldn't run street tires at the track and invest in DR's? What about upgrading the axels as well?

You can run street tires just don't dump the clutch out the hole, let off if you get any wheel hop, and you'll be fine. Don't try to do crazy burnouts either... just a quick spin to get the rocks/water off the tires while approaching the line.

Upgrading axles isn't needed until you're making big power and *really* know how to drive. Because even N/A you could break upgraded axles if you launch like a n00b on a sticky track. I've got dozens of passes at 400+ whp on stock axles with no probs.

With street tires I basically had to feather thru first and sometimes even 2nd if the track prep was poop. Any kind of wheelspin ended up in violent wheelhop most times.

I think at MIR if you're NA, you shouldn't have too much wheelspin issues. their prep is best it gets.

Toyo R888s no good? Honestly, its hard to spin these at my current power level. I can't speak for a launch, but very minimal spin on hard shifts from 1st to 2nd.

Agreed that much seat time is needed. Plus I'm still scared to break something.

Probably not spinning on R888's N/A but with street tires especially those kind be easy on the launch until you get a feel for it. Most people break their axles due to clutch dumping or from staying in it with axle hop. The track is WAY stickier than streets and when you break loose it can get nuts.

Have a read, this is where I learned almost everything:

I know plenty of c6z06 guys running street tires on the track, they just watch the launch and bug out with wheel hop, but like I said a better tire is always wanted

Cass don't waste the r888's on drag racing ( I also have them on my street rims, way too good of a tire to waste at the strip) just get a dedicated rim / tire

By the way, capitol is CLOSED until further notice!

I suspect MIR and Cecil will be quite crowded in the coming months.

Damn! More people for the loss! I'm definitely only doing Saturday sessions now, that extra 15 bucks will be worth the smaller crowd

Yea at Cecil anyways, it's $35 to run, track prep is better , the caliber of cars is always better, plus you can usually get a ton of runs in, especially later in the day.
