Default launching problems anyone?

I'm having problems launchin my car. Launching at any RPM (usually 1500-2500) results in wheelspin in 1st & 2nd gear. While this is fun, I dont go anywhere! Also my gtech times have been bad (5.9-6.2) with waaaay too much wheel spin & wheel hop. There is still some salt on the streets, which may be part of the problem.

How do you guys deal with wheelspin & or wheelhop (Bigger tires are not an option for me right now)??

I will take it to a track in spring.

I had a thought a while back and someone else echoed it later. I haven't tried it since I just got the car & I'm not really into racing.

Have you considered trying to launch in first gear with the VDC on, then somehow figuring out how to switch it off as you go up through the gears? I would think with practice you should be able to grab the steering wheel with the right hand, hit the VDC button with the left, then change hands on the wheel to shift the next gear.

Your launching at too low of an RPM. my car Base RSX launches at 3500rpm, the S2000 launches at 6000rpm, the stickier your tires the higher u gotta launch at, and theres other stuff to consider. Also, are u dumping the clutch and flooring it, or are u taking like a second to let out the clutch and uniformly giving it gas?

I'm feathering it the right way, not just dumping. I'm not sure launching at a higher rpm will help much, since launching at a low rpm feels too much as it is.

I think honda troll has the right idea with the road surfaces. I'll probably drop the tire press & see what happens.

Plus, I don't think its normal for a Z to do crazy tire spinning in 2nd gear, it should just be chirping it. This leads me to believe the road conditions suck now. It should do better in spring after the salt goes away.

Thanks for ideas guys!!

well i tried dropping the tire pressure in my Z and here are my thoughts. the stock presure was 38 psi in the rear tires. i had exesive wheel spin through first if i launche above 2k (clutch drop). i reduced the tire pressure to around 26 psi in the rear. i tried launching at 2k and gues what happened exessive wheel spin. the reduced tire pressure didnt help me any. niether did it help the wheel hop. when we launch our cars at 2k rpms its only a sec or so that our torque goes up from 200 to around 225 ft/lbs which is it 2.5k rpms. this causes the wheels to get very spin happy. the way to get a good launch is rev to 2.7k and feather the clucht out IMO. it takes practice and you will be ridding your clutch allot so i dont recomend it.

oh and if your tire pressure goes below 31 psi the car makes this annoying noise when you start it up and the trip computer will keep showing a PSI warning.

Sentiments already echoed about road surface and debris are spot on. Also consider this... you're in Chicago, it's Winter and you're on Summer tires. Unless you do some warm-up burn outs beforehand, your tires are cold and brittle and cold tires DO NOT hook-up.
