Played with a Boxter S....
A funny thing happened on my way home form Edison last night. I was going down Route 1 south around New Brunswick and came across a yellow Boxter S pling into traffic from an entrance ramp. My friend actually pointed it out to me so I pulled up next to it to check it out. They are very nice looking uin yellow after all. Traffic was only going around 30 at this point so I downshifted so he could hear my engine and pulled a little on him. That got his attention and the fun began. Through the next several lights we were playing around passing cars, and occasionally when the road allowed trying to pull on one another. Then finally we got a light with the two of us side by side and clear road for at least 3/4 of a mile. Light turns green, and chirpped leaving the line. My friend said he could hear the Porsche really pulling hard. I don't nkow since I wasn't in the cockpit, but it certainly seemed that way. Then all the way up through about 100 we are side by side. I wasn't pulling on him don't get me wrong, but I certainly wasn't losing either. We both backed off and that was that. I was just happy to be in the same ballpark as a $57-60k car. Especially a Porsche. My frend that was with me couldn't believe that the Z did that well. Just a little note so you can all hold your head a little higher when you drive around!!!

the porsche driver had no idea what he is doing then because with a proper launch the porsche would've been ahead of you by about .1 or .2 seconds.
It takes the Boxster S approximately 13.9-14.0 at 101mph to turn a 1/4 mile, the new 350z takes 14.3 at about 99.9 mph
the boxster S also hits 100mph in 13.7 seconds, whereas the Z hits 100 in approx. 14.2-14.3 seconds.
the porsche driver couldn't drive his car, now if was driving his car for him it'd be a different story.
teknics.

oh so we meet again mr "i have an s2000" man:
let's see where did i state i read any of that in a magazine? Guess what all of those statistics are from real life experiences, and timeslips & 1/4 mile recordings.
As i stated in the other topic you tried to say i was wrong about, I have been employed by both Englishtown and Atco raceways and therefore have seen most these cars in stock-form race down the 1/4 mile in hopes of doing something great after spending an arm and a leg to get a car which i would dominate with my completely stock car which cost me $10,000. And when i say dominate i mean through all the gears, and in just about any test you want, slalom, straights, even design characteristics such as CD.
Anyway the reason i stated 99.9mph for the 350z is because we had a memorable run of the 350z at englishtown a guy tried for 3 runs to try and get his car over a trap speed of 100mph and simply could not do it, and in fact 99.97 was the fastest/closest he got.
The boxster S is simply from averaging the couple of runs I have seen in my head an giving a generalized figure, which is neither the best time i've seen nor the worst time I've seen.
So before you go touting about the Z, buy one, drive one, race one, and measure it's abilities. I'm not saying the Z isn't a bad car, in fact I like the Z (except that they're overproducing them, woo i have car #1 out of 40,000 woopety-doo-da) I'm just saying that if you're going to challenge my numbers, which are race proven, then at least have some of your own numbers to be put up, which should have some kind of backing not "me and jimbob raced through the woods and hit 190mph in my escort"
g'day and please respond to this as well, you're a comical guy to me,
teknics.
edit: as for your s2000 pulling on boxster S's, perhaps i should note that doing the stupid honda fly-by's don't count, nor does it count when only one car is racing.

Hate to tell you something but there have been several people on this forum who have been able to pull sub 14 sec. 1/4's already with bone stock Z's. Maybe the person you saw couldn't get a good run or couldn't drive himself. Jayson from north Jersey ran a 13.9 with a poor 60 ft. time(according to him), ZGirl ran a 13.9 on her first ever trip to the track. I have never been to a track either but am what I consider a very good performance driver. At least compared to most. Like I said in my original post, I am not trying to brag about beating or in any way being superior to a boxster S. I was simply ttrying to let people know we could give them a good run for their money. Obviously every race is dependant on the driver. I am sure Steve Millen could beat me with an Escort against my Z, luckily I dont come across him on the road to often. Try to read posts for what they are before you go slamming everything about them. Yes I was busy driving not looking at my speedo. We might have stopped at 80 or maybe 110. I just slowed down when I had to. Either way we were just about dead even.

i'm not calling BS on your story, or anything, and that second post wa sin no relation to you really just shutting up the gaston guy.
I believe your story, and could see it happen, I'm just saying that you shouldn't get your hopes up to be taking boxster S's all day because eventually you'll find someone who drives like i do and will hand your nissan emblem to you on a silver platter.
All in all i congratulate you for the victory, and for being able to draw a porsche emblem on your kills list, that is a great accomplishment for any car, especially due to just the heritage that a porsche holds with it.
so congrats on your race,
teknics.
edit: zpeeddemon you're not far away from me, perhaps to stop you from blahing you would care to go through a nice race or two? that is if you have a Z or any respectable car for that matter?

I understand yor point but I still want you to realize that I am in no way trying to put a Porsche on a kill list, but rather admiring the fact I could even keep up. I am not planning on beating a Porsche at all regularly unless maybe it is an early 80's 928S4 with a little old lady driving! I do not race on a regular basis but couldnt resist the temptation of "playing" with a Boxster. It is a great car, the boxster I mean, and I hold it in my highest regards from an enthusiast's standpoint. That is why I was so happy to be in the same ballpark as it. I personally am a car fan, and a driving enthusiast. I don't care if I lose to a Civic (well maybe if it is Boosted!lol), I just love cars and love to drive.
"It takes the Boxster S approximately 13.9-14.0 at 101mph to turn a 1/4 mile, the new 350z takes 14.3 at about 99.9 mph'
Wrong. Quite Simply Put. Sorry, but those are NOT real world numbers like you state. As said previously, people have gotten sub 13 1/4 and in the 101 MPH area.
"get your hopes up to be taking boxster S's all day because eventually you'll find someone who drives like i do and will hand your nissan emblem to you on a silver platter."
Wrong again. These cars are like the S2000 vs. 350z, stock for stock have prob. identical 0-60/ 1/4 if driven hard/max. Out of the three the S2000 is the toughest to get quick 1/4-0-60 times out of as it takes the most abuse to get there. Bottom line, speed wise the Boxter S will be even with a Z, like stated in the race/kill story. A friend of mine just turned in his Boxter (non S) for a 350Z, he was going to buy a Boxter S, but after test driving a 350Z saw no reason to spend an extra $30K dollars. Finnally I will concide that stock the Boxter S has a handling advantage in that it is a mid-engine car, and on a track driving by EQUAL (same) drivers will prob. pull slightly better times due to it's better set-up. BUT with the difference between the two (read: I paid $28K for my 350Z) I can make my car kill the Boxter-S in both acceleration, handling, and as far as I'm concerned already own it in terms of looks. Cheers

A. there are better drivers in the world, other than the ones that drive at the tracks you "watched". So just because no one at your track gets lower than a 14.2 in a 350Z, doesn't mean no one else will at another track. The S2k - 350Z - Boxster S are a driver's race period.
B. And in case you didn't realize, it's a hard goal to try to get a higher trap speed. Your fastest trap speed will NOT be your fastest ET. Your fastest ET will always have a lower trap speed than what your best trap speed is. Which is why it's hard to specifically increase your trap speed.
(my fastest ET was a 13.8 (rounded off) at about 100mph.... my highest trap was 101.84@14.085)

Teknics I refer you to the following link.

That's a 13.8 out of a not so good 60' time. I think you need to stop with the "i'm god because I work part-time at some speedway" attitude. This forum is for ACTUAL races, not little magical numbers you like to make up in your head depending on which car you like more. If you look at power:weight ratios, and gearing(numbers that actually really matters) you'll see the truth. S2000 bhp:weight ratio is .0873hp per pound of car. Boxster S bhp:weight ratio is .089hp per pound of car. 350Z bhp:weight ratio is .089hp per pound of car. What do these numbers mean? Whoever is the better driver wins! S2000 vs. 350Z vs. Boxster S no car has enough of an advantage where you can say Car A will beat Car B. It's all driver, and I guess i'm good enough to lay the smack down on old men in boxsters.

I laugh when I read everyone arguing on this forum, it cracks me up to read everyone whinning about how someone made a kill and then everyone trying to call him a liar and put him down, for what made the driver that won in the race feel good about his new Z. I am here to say that not all cars are made the same, nor will run the same, eventhough they are exactly the same. Bare with me and imagine why not all chevrolet nascar engines dont run the same on the track if they have the same setup as some of the other cars?????? I would be willing to bet that you could take 2 proffesional drivers and take 2 Z's and one of the drivers would pull away from the other Z by atleast 2 car lenghts or more in the quarter mile, even with equal launches. As I have stated previously, I talked to Mead, he works for Nissan and was doing training on the Z and Infiniti cars here in Winston Salem and he told me that the Z is capable of running 0-60 in 5.1 secs with good conditions and the right launch. You can go ahead and call me a liar if you want, but the next time you come online and brag about your next kill and someone says that the driver of the other car must have not been driving good, then come back and read my reply.

wow thanks, never would've learned that at work...oh wait that's right we preach that to all the people that come to the track and aren't aware of how everything goes on, because perhaps it's their first trip or they're learning. what you just said is like preaching to the pope.

Igor- now that is some funny shizznits!!! Thanks for the support guys. I just dont understand how this turned into a big deal in the first place!!! Can't we all just get along? lol Stop the insanity!!! (anyone else remember that lady?)
you brought up drag type racing, what did you expect.
Draggers don't really enjoy racing, they really only enjoy talking trash and flaming each other. Everybody knows real racers go around corners too, the turnoff at the end of the strip doesn't count. Todays technology is about more than just accelerating in a straight line. If it wasn't we'd all still be driving Torinos, RoadRunners, and Baracudas.
That's what makes a car like the 350Z such a jewel, it's a driving machine that can't be beat for value. However, I think you'd find the Boxster S a bit harder to hang with in the twisties, it has one of the best balanced, easy to ride the limit chassis' ever built. A Z06 Vette will kill a Boxster S at the strip, but on the autox course the Boxster will still lose but only barely. The Z06 Vette is no slouch at the autox either, the Boxster handling is just that good.
peace,
Team ???Z???

Also, your comment about draggers not liking racing is a pretty far out statement.
One more thing, "Todays technology is about more than just accelerating in a straight line." Today's technology? Look at how long road racing has been around.
