I'm a little new to this, so I want to know the answer too.

I use to own a 94 vr4, and i raced a 93 z28 lti. from a standstill I jumped all over him because of a 5000 rmp launch.(not good for the tranny) and won by maybe 2 car lenths, but from a roll we was even at about the end of third then he slowly started pulling away from me.From what i being hearing about the 350 beating some lt1's,Iwould think it would beat a 3000gt vr4.

No offense, but I personally don't think so.

A stock 2nd gen (94+) VR-4 is capable of 4.8 to 60 and mid 13's at ~102 MPH. 315lbs. of torque at 2500 RPM aint no joke.

Stock Z33's run ~14.0 at 99-100MPH.

You're talking about the Z correct? I'm pretty sure 13.8 is about as common as the 3000GT/Stealths that run 13.0@104. I'm talking common drivers doing average runs.

ok....most average drivers would get around a 13.9 like joyia aka speedracer. most beginners get around low 14s.

I had a 97 VR4 a few years ago and I can tell you that it would own my G35C and a 350Z from a stop. From a roll, it would still win but not by much as the VR4 is not a great "from a roll" car. $900 in mods got me 12.6@108mph on pump gas. All stock 1st gen VR4's would be great competition for the fastest stock 350Z. 2nd gen VR4's would be more than a stock Z could handle.

I currently drive a 2000 mustang and maybe be shopping for a 350 this summer. And yes a vr4 2 jen will definately take a 350 from a standstill because of the launch and traction. But from a roll is it`s weak spot same as the wrx. And the vr4 weighs close to 3800 lb and a25% drivetrain lost so the power to weight goes to the Z.

a 2g VR-4 and a Z trap about the same with the VR-4 a bit higher stock for stock. So from a roll its pretty close.

Default I want your money!!!

Woohoo! I wish I was there to take your money!! I traded my 91' 300GT auto for my 350. I still own a 93' 300GT auto. I have put over 78k miles on the two GT's over several years of ownership and there is no way an auto 3kGT will hang anywhere near my 350 in ANY kind of run. My best 3kGT ran 146mph top end and that is very impressive, but it took a very long time to get there and I cannot vouch for the level road tho it looked level to me. Stock for stock they are just not in the same league and I know what I am talking about with these cars. You may wish it to happen, but that won't make it happen. My best GT 0 - 60 was a high 7 second time that was repeatable. My current GT (wife's car) rarely can break out of the mid/high 8's and everything has to be right. My 350 gives me 5.84 to 6.04 both ways on the same road using the onboard stopwatch. Admittedly, not a very precise way of measurement, but it gives you an idea of the vast gulf between the two cars. I too am serious in that I wish I was close to Chi town to be able to take your money!!
Oh, BTW, are you modded? If not, just send me your check. Regards, Jim

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a suggestion. Turn the TCS off. Press the brake. Place the car in D or 1. Since the throttle is electronic and the brake causes the engine from revving over 2G, floor it. The car will just sit there at 2G until you let the brake go. When you release the brake, the engine flies like a "bat out of hell". Yes I know there will be people out there saying that this will burn up your converter, but it is an alternative to Neutral drops.

Try it out. I did.

I owned a '92 VR-4 and that car was NO slouch! Even without the close-ratio 6-speed I ran 13.6 in the 1/4 STOCK. It even surprised the hell out of me. I was running 12s with very little work. I don't think a stock 350Z could beat even a 1st gen. VR-4 and this is coming from a guy who's owned a VR-4 and ordered a Z. The VR-4s are heavy as hell but the AWD really puts the power down hard and even with the tiny 9B turbos. I've seen guys with 13G turbos running 11s easily. The VR-4 is the kind of GT car that can run REALLY fast with all-season tires and a full interior! That's nothing to laugh at. I surprised many a domestic owner when I was living in St. Louis, and I drove that car YEAR ROUND. I miss it like crazy!

An N/A 3000GT would be no match for a 350Z. That's for sure. The FWD N/As run pretty slow (especially with autos) and they're not very easy to launch. I would put my money on an auto 350Z anyday, assuming drivers of equal skill...

As the current owner of both cars (although I only have 24 miles on the Z), I agree with everything JimH has written in regards to the 3000GT. Unless, heavily modded, the AT Z should take an AT SL pretty handily. I love my 3000GT 5spd, but it is very slow, even with the few mods I have on her (exhaust, K&N, etc...). However, VR-4's are definitely no slouches, and can hang with the big boys.

wow..i gotta admit..thats the first time ive seen someone posted that kind of time for a 92 vr4 stock.
from a stop..it should be close
but from a roll..that Z should beat it.
i believe the trap speed for vr4s are under 100. most of our cars trap up to 101- 103 at a 1/4 mile.
