Default Auto 300oGT vs. Auto 350Z

So who would take it? I dont know jack about the 3000GT but have a friend with a stock one wanting to take me on for $50 but before I shake on it I want to have an idea im gonna have a chance.

Also how do you Launch an Auto? Can you? I figure the TCS has to be turned off.

You can search on C&D for reviews of the 3000GT. Is it a turbo version, because if not, it only has like 220 HP and weighs more than the Z.

Anyhow, if it is a turbo version it may be close, but if it is not a turbo then the Z should win.

pending the year and model. If it is non-turbo (any model) you will kill him (stock VS. stock). The turbo (VR4), you prob. won't win. it comes 320 stock and can keep up w/ about anything. The non turbos will say SL on the back, or nothing. The non-turbos are very slow, I had an SL as my first car, I should know. Keep us updated. If you want more info go to:

If it's a turbo it won't kill the Z, remember the 3000GT is the slowest of the 300ZX, RX-7, and supra bunch. I think it's 0-60 is about 5.6 - 5.7 so if you drive the Z right you'll beat him.

The '94+ VR-4s ran 0-60 in the 5.0 sec range (MT ran one at 4.8sec) and mid 13 1/4 mile.

But luckily, CottonWoodz is right, the VR-4 was a 5sp before '94 and a 6sp '94 onwards.

If your buddy has an automatic...you should be able to take him, even if you have a bad launch.

Default Z vs GT

I own both cars presently and it is no contest. The auto GT is a high 8 second 0-60 on a very good launch/day. My auto (touring) Z gives me 5.84 to 6.13 stopwatch 0-60 times on a regular basis with TCS off and a 2500rpm launch. Regards, Jim

Do you own VR4, SL, or base?

The Turbo VR4 are no slugs, the non-turbos are.

i know this guy with an sl, but hes not stupid enough to mess wid my Z lol
but i also know this other guy with a stock vr4 92, i believe, now he thinks he can take me on with his dying turbos lol

i mean...everytime a slow car beat him, he always use that boost leak ****. i hate people like that.
"he beat me cause i have a boost leak" or "i wasnt trying"
so now im just curious, y do most of the vr4 owners b.s. when they lose?

Default Z vs. 3000GT SL

I am on my second SL. (traded one on the Z) It is really nearly a true GT when compared to my Z. Yes, slower than the Z as it is 3600lbs, geared much higher and smaller displacement/output than the Z. The GT (SL) does itself proud on top end w/its 2.9 litre 222 hp engine tho. I have run 146mph on more than one occasion on a closed course. The GT is smoother riding, more appointments and still turns heads 10 years after it hit the sales floor. IMHO it is more a GT as against a "sports car" and isn't meant to compete w/Z unless you go head to head w/VR4 TT in straight line acceleration runs. Regards, Jim

If it is a VR-4, they have AWD I think which means a hell of a launch.

Like said before, if its an SL or base auto, you'll rape it.

And BTW the VR-4 is the fastest 0-60 and tied with the Supra Turbo in the 1/4th mile. (Popular Mechanics ran a 13.44.) The slowest jap TT car was either the 300zx or rx-7, stock.

And Jim, do you have a 1st gen SL? Cuz 3600lbs is almost as much as a VR-4. 94+ SL's weigh about 3400lbs and bases weigh about 3250.

If you'd like to race a base model AUTO 3000GT, please let me know. I've got a friend who'd want to run ya.

Default 93 3000GT

PD, Yes, it is a 1st gen (93). I had it weighed w/me and nearly full tank a couple of years ago at a truck shop and it was 3560 lbs. I weigh 200 and the liquids would account for another 75lbs or so. The car dry w/o me would then come in around 3285 lbs. or so. I think that is ballpark and I dunno' what the wheels weigh compared to stock either. It is just a big ol' GT and certainly not competition for our Z's, in any acceleration game(s), but I would rather take a 3000 mile road trip in the GT over the Z anytime. She's a comfortable old gal with her electrically adjustable suspension, bolsters, etc. Regards, Jim
