350Z now an official race car
dwnshift's 350Z finished a very respectable 14th in the GSII class at Daytona yesterday. The Z finished with a time of 2:11.601, ahead of 2 Porsche 996's.
The 350Z is now officially a competition-proven race car!
Congrats BJ, Michiel, Andy, and the whole team!

Not to take anything away from dwnshift's achievment but the international debut of the 350Z in racing was in Australia at the Bathurst 24 hour in mid Novemeber '02.
Unfortunately they DNF after running as high as 10th overall IIRC

Is that an RSX behind it. I've been to Daytona (working in the pits) for 5 years in a row and had to skip this year to run in the P.R.O event at talladega. I thought it was great seeing the locally run eclispe in the race a few years back man that would have been great to see a car like an RSX and the 350z on the same track as a Ferrari 333sp. (was that in it this year?) I didn't even get to watch.
I can see both views as well. I was just pointing out that wasn't the first time a Z had been raced. And I'm sure you'd agree that running 10th after 23 hours of non stop racing against all makes and models of cars only to have a tyre blow and put you into a wall with only an hour to go is just bad luck.

I see both views. To satisfy both, how about this:
This was the first Z to race in North America.
I went down just to see it...
