Default Few highway runs with an auto LS1 SS

At first I was worried....my buddy was in the car and I looked at him and said "Those are FAST".....so I pulled up next to him....we exchanged nods...and he moved over a lane and took off, so I followed in third...right on his butt, smelling the nice rich exhaust fumes....and suprisingly he didn't leave me...instead the left lane opened up (3 lane highway) and he moved over (still WOT) and I slowly pulled by him near 110mph. We ran a few more times, and just to make sure it was a fair race I gave him a hit from 80....his auto slowly downshifted, his rear-end sat down and I waited until he starting pulling out before I hit it. Again, he pulled out for a second, and then I started reeling him in and slowly pulled by him once we eclipsed 100mph.....we then slowed down again and exhanged thumbs up and went our respective ways

All in all....I'm rather impressed with the Z....I was worried when I first saw the LS1 because of what people have been saying.

Guys...I don't want this to turn into an LS1 vs. 350Z debate...because this is ONE ISOLATED situation, and it very well could have had a different outcome if it was a 6-speed or if the LS1 was modded...

My experience was similar to yours when racing an auto LS1. If they caught the downshift at lower speeds they would pull me. However, at a starting speed of approx 70 they dont catch the downshift and they dont pull away. I was only able to pull up on them in the draft though. Side by side it was more of a dead heat.

Sounds like it could be legit to me. Auto LS1 performance vaires a lot simply due to the fact that there were two different rear end ratios available. While the 3.23's are usually on par with the M6's in stock trim, the 2.73's leave a little on the table as far as speed goes.

Nice kill!

Thank you!

That's been exactly my point ever since the 1st debate between the two cars. The 350Z can be a good challenge to a stock LS1. They are fast, but the Z is too.

Is your car stock w/those hp and torque numbers? If not, what have you done?

Good runs. I drive an auto with 3.23 gears and with it being stock, its leaves alot to be desired when it comes to launches and highway runs compare to the M6. On the other hand, with a higher stall tq. convertor, auto's can be quite fun to drive. Its still not a 6-speed though. Again, good runs.

An A4 LS1 with a torque converter will make you go from a stop.

Good kill .....anything is possible on the street.

All the ones i've seen run were below 100, so no not exactly a drivers race in the 1/4...The Z driver has to be great, and the LS1 driver has to be my grandma...

guys....I am fully aware of how quick an LS1 can be...even stock...read the last part of my post again. I never said that I could pull on any stock auto LS1. You don't have to keep "warning" me about them...I know what they can do...

Just take it for what it is....a good kill story...that's it. Nothing more, nothing less.
