Default 1999 BMW M Coupe VS. 2003 Nissan 350Z (outcome?)

My friend just got his 1999 BMW M Coupe and he wants to race me for fun. We are both fairly new to manual drive cars, and I have been driving my car for about 2 weeks more than he has been driving his. No real experience with racing, surprisingly no one has revved at me since I got my Z.

Just a little info on the power of the M Coupe

Horsepower 176.6 Kw / 240 BHP @ 6000 RPM
Torque 320.0 Nm / 236 Ft-lbs @ 3800 RPM

From numbers (magazine times for 0-60, 1/4 mile) , our cars are very close. Could this be a driver's race then? I am guessing that I will inch by him as we climb to speeds around 100. We are planning to do a roll from 10 mph and also one from 60.

Just curious as to what you guys might think the outcome of it will be.

If you don't miss any shifts...you should be able to take him. Especially at highway speeds. Stoplight drags between the two cars will pretty much be driver dependant.

You actually like the shoe? I've been a fan of BMW for my entire short life - my first car was a '73 2002 - but that thing is just plain ugly. I'm talking Isetta ugly, and at least the Isetta had some novelty to it.

M Coupe Power/Weight (3131/240) = 0.0767

350Z Power/Weight (3188/287) = 0.0900

Bigger number is better, you should walk away from him easily. BMW not very impressive at that weight/hp.

hmmm... maybe, but the number you quoted is with a 130 lbs driver and the Z will weigh about 120 lbs more with me in it (yea im a small, lean guy)

pretty close race according to mags, the Coupe was a 5.3-5.5 car, the Z is a 5.4-5.7 car, I don't know 1/4 times though, anyone??
