Default 350z vs. Tiberon

I was in the city, and went to pick up a shake at dairy queen, the kid in the window, asked how much it cost, then asked if i was fast, i said yah fairly fast, then he asked would it beat a tiberon, i kinda laughed, and said i don't know, i imagine since it can beat mustang gts, then he said, a tiberon can beat a mustang, i just kinda laughed and said OH, then drove away, are lotsa kids actually this stupid??

I recently ran an 03 Tibyron who had Cobra snakes on his car. He told me he raced a 97 Cobra for emblems and won. I laughed and destroyed his *** with my lowly GT.

I was browsing in the car audio section at Bestbuy when a conversation struck up with one of the sales associates about cars. He was probably around 21-25 years old. He asked me what I drove and so I told him. He was like nice ride man, I just bought an RSX type S. He further explained to me how a few days ago he blew past a 03 cobra doing 160 on the highway. It took a lot of resistance in my part not to laugh so I just walked away.

When I hear idiots like that talking I call them out on it. I have no problem calling them a **** idiot if there is no way that the story is true.

I used to own an rsx-s. They are fast little cars, but what that kid said was so off base, I think he should be arrested for flagrant stupidity!

see I gotta be careful, theres a tiberon right in the same parkin lot as me, full rice ready. altezzas, potato cannon, decals, ect. but my roomate played paintball with him, and drove in it, he said it was quick, he has a turbo, but it isnt really boosting cause he got detonation.

I obviously imagined it would be the V6 version, but no its the I4. so Im not too concerned, havent run it yet. but I have taken a GT on a highway(or atleast that driver in one), and I know a GT can take a tiberon, so I dont think Id waste my gas, Id imagine the cobra thought the same thing, pretty stupid to buy emblems to make up a story, probably jacked em off a car.

I heard a story once of a guy with a civic SI, someone with a teg or something called him over at a gas station to see his new "turbo and nitrous" well they thought the guy knew nothing, but he did, and he actually showed him one of those bazooka bass things that looks like a bottle, and a chrome alternator housing... tried to pass it off as a turbo. the guy told him what an idiot he was.

This is too odd, that this conversation came up........

Few weeks ago I was at Taco bell in the Z waiting in line. I hear what is obviously a race in the distance. First i hear a v8 rumble then what is DEFINATELY a Z and a higher pitched vehicle screaming.

What do i see? A red Saleen, a red or white (cant recall) Z, and a red tibby. Saleen was ahead of hte Z and the tibby was RIGHT ON THE Z's A$$. I said WTF?!

I couldnt get out of taco bell fast enough. As soon as I tried to get out on the highway the light turned red.

BAM i hear the tibbies blow off valve go. I mentally said "dayum"

Later that night I looked into it a little further. Apparently the 4banggers can be boosted like a mother. My girlfriend currently has an older style 2000 and wants to move up to a V6 loaded 6spd. Its a decent car for 19grand. Leather, sunroof, good stereo, nice wheels, decent styling.

But stock.......no way is it a race car!

Well Im pretty sure the one I raced was stock, he didnt put up much resistance. I have heard that the 4 cylinder mills can be boosted to so pretty tough levels. There is a guy over on clubrsx.com that has gotten an 03 V6 Tib down in the mid 14s with just headers and exhuast, and a few other minor bolt ons. Seems like a pretty stout little vehicle. Of course the price of a V6 Tiburon is like 2k less than what I payed for my Z28 new, and I like that better, but to each his own I guess.

Well I walked this TSI Talon pretty hard tonight with my Mustang so was that unfair to me? My point is if you are willing to race than everythings fair. Fwd just sucks for racing in my book but hey to each thier own.

Default Tiburon smoked a Z !

The only way a Tiburon could smoke a
Mustang OR a 350Z is if it was upwind
and on fire.

You guys are going to LOVE this, I raced a new tiberun GT 6 speed, the guy thought he was a hard *** we raced, i beat him by about one car, after he asked me if my vehicle was supercharged i laughed and said yes so he would feel better... this was abou a year ago before i had my Z, i beat him in a 1996 ford ranger pick up with the 4.0 V6 and a 5sped manual it was yellow and was that gay splash edition with the short bed, IMO hyundais are a POS

Unfortunately to contradict that comment... Hyundai was voted one of the most reliable and trusted vehicles of this year (or was it last year). Ak, what has this world come too? But in all honesty, you can run the new ones into the ground and they just ask for more! Cant beat um up, and they seem to never break. Its pretty amazing.

Default Hyundai

I sort of agree. My wife had a Hyundai when we got married. The thing lasted a LONG time and was pretty tough for a light weight piece of crap.

BUT, it was slow and handled like you would expect for the price.

They are good cars if you need to get from point A to point B on the cheap. But that is about ALL they are good for.

First of all this post is not to offend any of you Z owners out there. I currently due not own a 350z but and planning on buying one within the next 2 or 3 weeks. Also I have a general understanding of cars but I dont know as much as I would like. But hey im only 20 so I figure I have plenty of time to learn.

With that said, Have any of you thought about the Weight-2HP ratio of theses so called "Ricers"? For one I have seen a Honda CRX that had a integra grx engine swap that redlined close to if not at 10k, all motor bang on cameros, stangs, fire birds, and I believe there was a m3 as well. The CRX was gutted ( But its already a small light, car ) With an exhaust, and intake, And the side widows were replaced with plexi glass... that night at the quart drags off Oberland Drive, in the mira mesa / mira mar area ( if anyone from SD is reading this and has been to the races in that area) It was not a sexy car, **** it was a piece by all the standards of there but that was a fast car, didn't that the drive was prolly 5'5 110 german kid...

anyway, so all im getting at is just that, the cars you guys have and that I Want are HEAVY compaired to some of the other imports, but you guys already knew that. Besides we aren't going to for the pure drag or race car... We are also going for the style points...

/end babble

Not necessarily relevant to street racing, but here's a good article on the subject:

Forbes Magazine on the 2003 Honda Tiburon GT

...Well, that's kind of what the Hyundai Tiburon is: a faux Honda or Acura. The Korean automaker is smartly trying to ape the styling that has made its Japanese rivals so successful. And, because the Tiburon is priced well under the sticker of the Acura RSX and other popular competitors like the Subaru WRX and Mitsubishi Eclipse, a lot of car reviewers suddenly seem to think it deserves a special most-bang-for-the-buck award.

We say not so fast...
